My car has developed this problem in the last few weeks, the temperature guage goes very high on idle. Holding the revs at about 1.5/1.8k bring it down to normal pretty quickly, and when moving the needle never moves off centre. I didn't think much of this until this week, when my heater started acting the same way, blowing cold air on idle, only blowing warm when the revs are up.

This sounds like poor circulation, possibly a water pump problem? I was always under the impression that water pumps just let go and failed instantly?

Anyone else had a similar problem? I have a trackday in about 3 weeks, is it advisable not to do it with this? After all, I don't spend much time on idle at trackday...

pull your stat out and test, most likely cause, be sure to bleed coolant after

honda water pumps rarely just fail, gradually just get worse but id start with stat first kozy

ya! i agree... if unsure start with the easy checks and fixes first....ya never know... it could be an obstruction of some kind as well... and usually when the water pump goes out there is a bit of coolant that leaks past the seal on the water pump itself, so you should be able to see if its wet down there... Hope this helps dude....
