i finally found a forum dedicated solely for the EK9, thank God! :nice:

i am a proud owner of a 1998 Civic Type R (Championship White) which i bought a couple of days ago from an importer of JDM stuff, it's not perfect but it will make for a good restoration project, the purpose will be for a daily driver but with the occasional trackday.

the car was converted from RHD to LHD (that sucks), by law all cars must be LHD before they can be sold & operated on public roads (blame the government for their ignorance & stupidity). for now i am more concerned with putting this car back to it's former condition which means new tires, new (rear) brake pads, new trailing arm bushings, paint touch up etc.

i just had the body, interior & underchassis washed, there are a few places where rust has built up, car was sitting in the open back in japan, snow & cold climate had started a few rust formations under the car, the calipers, rotors are pretty rusted.

i also changed the engine oil (Shell Helix 10W-40 semi synth), transmission oil (Motul Transoil Expert 10W-40 semi-synth) & coolant (Motul Inugel50), checked & regapped the stock plugs but i'm gonna get some Denso IK22 iridium plugs for it.

btw what does Honda recommend for octane rating? as of the moment i am filling up with Shell 93 RON unleaded & i can hear some detonation just off idle but after it picks up to higher revs it doesn't detonate anymore even at WOT.

even with the high mileage (163500kms) the engine is still very quiet & it runs like a champ (of course it is, it's a Honda), i checked the color of the oil & i was expecting it to be colored darker b'coz of the mileage but to my surprise it's still like it was just poured from the bottle.

i'll be taking the car to Manila very soon & leave it to my brother to do the other stuff i don't have time to spare, he will have the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, rubber bushings, & tires changed. btw with regards to the clutch disk & cover is it the same with the B16A series? sorry for being a noob but it has been a decade after i turned my back on import cars (long story), you can say there is still a little bit of my former self that led me to buy this car, i just had to rescue this car from neglect & if ever i needed to modify this car it will be only suspension & some exhaust/ECU mods.

i do trackdays on my 600RR but in the future i want to try driving this car in it's real environment; the race track. now if we could only put the throttle & clutch on the steering wheel & the shifter on the left foot pedal i can downshift a whole lot easier (i suck at heel & toe). :D

sorry for the long introduction, where do i post pics?

Hello, and welcome, you can post photos of your ride here:

http://www.ek9.org/forum/photos-videos/

The petrol octane you're using is way to low, I at least recommend you to use 95 octane one, since in japan mostly this car uses 98 octane gas.

Where did you converted the car to LHD ? in Japan or in the Phillipines ?

Hope to see photos of your ride soon :) :woot:

Hello & welcome..!

sounds ur already feeling that ctr luv... :) keep us updated with ur ride.

think ur the 1st in this site with a LHD convertion :wow: this is the reason why i hve an ek4 instead! :(

thanks for the advice guys, i'll fill it up with Shell V-Power next time the gas gauge reads low, gas is very expensive over here, it's already at $4 a gallon. pics are now posted in the proper section of the forums.

i can't seem to find the answer i am looking for so i'll just ask here, noob question; is it normal for the SRS indicator light to be on all the time when i am driving?

I think nothing must be on while driving........:nerv:

i see, ok what to do to make the SRS light turn off? any suggestions on how to reset it?

I remember a year ago mine had the "check" yellow light on all the time, but I had no indication that something was not ok, the engine was running fine, no smells etc..... so my mechanic connected a small device/computer on the ECU that checks ALL sensors and the problem was the exhaust sensor that needed to be replaced :blabla: I would say to do the same if you have access to such device just to be sure what's going on :nice:
