hi all, gearbox problems, please help!!

cheers for looking, if u have any suggestions, please post them.

pulling from work, started car and drove in first (tickover) about 30 ft while putting me belt on, then as i give it beans to get away, somthing popped or knocked. car still in first, but rolling like neutral, tried second and thats the same, also third fourth fifth and reverse. gearbox feels completly normal. just when you select a gear, nothing happens. nothing felt different to normal driving to work, no clues to clutch wear or anything, gearbox dosnt crunch at all. im baffled and cant get hold of my mechanic.
if you have experienced this or have any ideas, please share.

Can you get into gear [any gear] without using the clutch while the engine is running?

All I can think of is a broken axle if its not the transmission.

yeah, it feels totally fine. apart from the fact that it wont drive. god knows, my mechanic mates gunna have a look on the weekend. ill post what he finds. bet this gets expensive...

got lucky on this one. it seems i dislodged the cv joint from the driveshaft while fitting new suspension. 2 days later, it came off, and as there was no resistance from the wheel, the diff was not engaging the other wheel, ie. no drive. (guess this is whats happened). replaced the cv joint and all is well. only give away was one side of the driveshaft was turning, but not connected. i bet this has cost people loads. if it saves you money, its all good. sound.
