hey guys,

just a bit of a general question as i was changing the sidelights in my mum's ek4 last night and upon checking them saw that one of the bulbs wasn't in the socket properly then upon removing the plug, the envitable happened and the bulb fell inside the headlight unit!

i have found a thread - http://www.ek9.org/forum/interior-exterior/22607-were-bolts-located-remove-headlight.html - indicating the bumper needs to come off but wondered how big of a job this is?

i remember having to do this to one of my previous cars and there were clips for the bumper everywhere! any advice would be appreciated as i'll be doing this tomorrow as i feel terrible for making such a silly mistake and envisage the bulb banging around the headlight unit!

thanks in advance.

No way of getting anything in to reach bulb and pull it out? It's pretty straight forward to remove bumper just have someone to give you a hand with lifting it out away from car so you don't end up marking anything.

it's easy once you remove the bumper you can see how easy the HDlight mounting is!

its pretty straight forward job to do. Same happened to me but I was too lazy to do it at that time and I forgot about it till I read this thread and it reminded me, I still have a loose buld in my headlight:angry2:
Anyway to remove the bumper idealy ask someone to help, so you wont scratch the bumper when you take off/put it on plus it ll be alot faster job, but it is doable on your own as well.
to take the bumber off
1.remove the grill
2. i think there are 2 screws under or beside the grill(cant remeber really)
3 remove the screw under each wheel arch.
4 take the bumber off
5 than youll see the 3rd screw for the headlight which was hidden by the bymper

hope it helps

There's Also 2 10mm bolts underneath the car which hold the plastic splash panels on.
Would recommend laying a sheet or blanket on the ground to put the bumper on, The other 2 headlight bolts you cants see are one on the outside edge and one at the front underneath. You may have to remove 2 metal brackets directly in front of the headlights you will see them once the bumpers off (held on with one 10mm bolt) can be done with them on but you might scratch a light.
I thought I was the only person who had done this feel a little less embarrassed now!

thanks for the advice mate but it's now fell to the front of the unit so don't think i'll be able to fish it out so looks like the bumper will have to come off to get it out! the only saving grace is that it doesn't make a rattle or anything so there's no major rush to do it!

this does help a lot, thanks for the advice with the bumper! i'm just going to leave it for a while, as you have, but will do it sometime soon as i feel guilty for making the mistake!
