I was doing some work on car and there is three bolts streped on header I put in some little bit bigger bolts for now just to hold it in till its fixed ,it's not blowing from what I can see, but there was soot at both bottom corners, my question is ,is it a easy job to retap them treads? And would it be something that someone can do that never done it before? Or just get a pro to do ,how much would a job like that be?
Thanks in advance

Do you mean the thread out of the head? If so have a garage helicoil it or attempt it yourself if you feel confident doing it

are the threads on the block screwed up or have you sheared off the studs coming out of the block?

The block treads pal ,and when I got the studs out there was some kind of rapping on them that look like silver metal,
Seems someone tried fixing it in the past ,was really looking forward to fitting my maxim works header but best to fix that first,
Thanks for reading

Yes sorry the head holes are stripped ,
Thanks for the reply

There was black soot at the cornersame so I tightened them down but they just spun ,so I removed them and put some bolts in for now,

You could probably retap it and it would hold. Obvs id be careful tightening them down but I've done this before with other stripped threads and it's worked

Thanks , I think I will get a shop to put helicoil in as it's in a vital place of the block , I'd hate myself if I made a pigs ear of it, lol.

Yeah that's fair enough. Although way I see it if you don't have a go you'll never be able to do it..
Some aren't interested in being able to do such things though so not really an issue for them.

Very true, and I must say I do like to do things for myself,
My mate across the road has a tap set ,he said I can have it if I need it and to just tap it up to the next size ,will I need any different bolt / thread pattern or will any bolt for next size up fit? Am I over thinking it?

Get a helicoil kit on ebay with the right drill and tap and some coils. Its easy and stronger than new.

Okay sorry for all the stupid questions but what is the size I need for heilcoil for my header bolts ,the bots are 12s so that's m12? So do I need one size up for heilcoil like m13 so I can still use my 12 bolt ?
Thanks for all your help its appreciated.

The 12mm head is not the size.
12mm honda bolts are 13mm a/f which is M8.
So you want M8 helicoils.
