Hi guys,

Doing a project on Halfords at the mo. Would you all mind giving me your feedback on their strengths, weaknesses and what you would like them to do in stores.

Thanks

The bike hut in Maidstone sucks

Not only that but I will never ever buy a bike from there again.
Sold me a broke bike took it back there many times and same story took it to an independent bike shop and got it sorted for £90 have halfords the bill

A lot of people give them a fair bit of abuse but tbh they're aren't half bad! I mean they sell all of the big brand names in cleaning etc and the rattle cans are half decent too. I've not bought anything mechanical off them so can't comment on that side of things
good luck on your project dude :nice:

it varies from store to store, some places I've used were pretty decent, others were complete dog's toffee.

there's no many places you can get odd spare parts late at night or on a saturday, plus a trade card makes some stuff dirt cheap

There work shops auto centre are rubbish . Shop not to bad retail prices are to much .

Halfords isn't all bad. I buy my Turtlewax and Autoglym stuff there. Of course I don't ask staff for help, as they'd probably don't know what they're looking at haha.

They have a paint, which they can color-match. Its only semi-decent.

Their Bike Hut is not that great. Rather go buy a quality bicycle and parts from independent shops.

Never tried their We Fit tent and never will. Like, if I bought a radio, I'd be scared they'd pry at the center console and poor soldering.

Their tools aren't too bad for the price. I wouldn't recommend them to a professional but mine do me for playing about the car on a weekend. Some of their staff could do with a lesson in customer service though. Their deals on cleaning products are normally pretty good.

3 for 2 on most cleaning stuff is a good deal from Halfords :nice:

Strengths - Convenient.

Weaknesses - The staff don't get any training so the customer service is usually ****. Very expensive also.

I used to work at one so thats my observations. Helped out loads of the forum members on here and I was generally better than your average staff member (not trying to blow my own trumpet) but that's because I trained myself in my own time.

I went in today as needed a cheap car cover for my teg

They had a cheap quality one (I'm sure it said on it was only suitable for 'light showers' or something) and it was £35 - no thanks

Instead I picked up a kids toy for my little boy and went to the till

Unfortunately they are running a free winter health check at the moment (they check your oil, wipers, bulbs, etc and sell/fit whatever you need) - it was unfortunate because they had two chaps doing this outside and nobody on the till...

Halfords are handy for odd's & sods and sometimes have some good deals on.

Other then that the staff at the one near me are moron's ask for help and you might as well be speaking to a wall.

Handy for bits but if your not interested in car's and need some help/advice avoid like the plague.

There staff do need training badly, i asked a women if they sold auxillary belts, ie power steering etc. She pointed at the baby seats and said trt over there if not they should be "here" ( as she points around the entire store). Not her fault, she just hasnt been trained.

It all depends on who you are. If your a true car enthusiast then you will find them quite useless. But if you are some one with little knowledge. The kinda person who can't change bulbs then they are very useful.
Things like fuses they are quite useful as you don't have to search around or order from the Internet.
