hey all

My plans have changed and i'm planning to go to uni in England next year, instead of staying in shitty Northern Ireland. Problem is, do i keep my 9 or sell up?

If i go to Teesside (middlebrough), which is the idea, then the 9 will have to be put in storage and it will be used for 4 months in summer and a few weeks during the year when i'm home.

If i don't sell up, will i regret it in 3 years time if the value of them drops to nothing?

If i did sell i'd probably buy something cheaper - 96's spec dc2 most likely.

Dont sell it, you will regret it.
I will always keep my EK9 even if the value of them drop down to £500.
I will never sell it.

Sell up, as you can always get another if you really wanted once you have finished University.

Back when I was at Uni, I had a 205 GTi then and I had that in storage, and it was hardly used. Wish I sold it, as then you don't have to worry about storage, insurancem tax, etc...

At the end of the day, it's just a car and they are always replaceable :))

it depends how much it means to you. if its just a means of transport then sell it but if its a big part of you life then you will regret it. I spend alot of time on my car and enjoy working on my car, cleaning it and buying new bits for it and going for the occasional blast/track day/road trip and mot of the things that me and my friends do is related to cars so if i sold it there would be something missing in my life i think. I will be moving away after the summer for uni aswell but im keeping mines locked up in the garage at my parents house and during weekends and holidays it will be getting used.

If you are the same as me in that respect then as long as its not going to cause you a financial burden then i would keep it. i cant see the price of ek9's going down much tbh. they have held their price for 13 years so 3 more years isnt going to make them worth pennies.

Ballymena close enuf to me lad. Email ma sum
Pics and the spec of the car.

if i have a 9..iwould definitely would keep and cheerish it...a lot of 9's now adays are being thrashed and not takin care of by the owners, maybe your right the price would drop...but also sooner or later 9's would be a collector item..and the price would surely rise high...jaz keep it so you wont regret it. =)

thats what i'm thinking. i mean i'm pretty sure i can find a nice warehouse to keep in it, where i won't have to worry about insurance etc. And who knows, in 5 years time mint examples might be worth a bomb

Sell up, use the money to have a good time at uni and come out at the end with a lot less debt. If you are smart with money, you can live off your own money and invest your student loans, mate of mine did this and his investment now stands at around £30k in value.

I would much rather I had that and a great time that'll remember for the rest of my life at uni than to scrimp and save just to have a car locked away that I can only use a few times a year.

That's just my side of the argument, you'll hear both sides of it and neither will be right, it is up to you to decide. :)

even if i do sell up i'm not going to splash all the cash. If i get what i want for my car and pick up a cheap jdm dc2 then it'll put about 2k in the bank at most.

I refuse to sell up and spend ALL the cash pissing it against a wall. Like i said, if I put it in storage, sorn off the road, it'll cost me next to nothing apart from tax and insurance in the summer.

I had the full wack of maintenance grant (not sure if it's available to people in NI, but probably is) and the full wack of student loan and I had more than enough money to have a fantastic, alcohol-filled, time.

At the end of it you have around £18,000 to pay back that's only once you earn over £14,000 and it's only something like £5 a week once you do.

Can't you take the car with you?
