Hello dear friends,
as the title i have problem with my ek9s gearbox!!! its an s4c gearbox with 4.7 mfactory final gear normat s4c gear rations and carbon moly synchros from synchrotech and mfactory solid gear bushes!! it had a rebuild 3 k kilomiters before with new seals bearings synchros etc etc!! now my prob is that on low rpms you feel the gear when you put it on the gear knob and on high rpms sometimes it just dont engage and if you press it a lot you hear a crunch!! no matter what gear is it!! could it be the clutch leaking?? or is anything to do with gearbox?? btw my engineer put 5-40 engine oil in as he mentioned that its better for this gearboxes instead of using gear oil

Better get Honda MTF ASAP!

5w-40w in your gearbox!! get some MTF in there ASAP. :nono:

I got same problem before as well, try change the gear linkgage.
Bleed the clutch fluid.

Sounds like more of a clutch problem. Check for leaks first. How many miles r on the clutch? Personally I think the mtf isnt so hot! I use 10/40 motal gearbox oil and I'm pretty happy with it.

What makes you say 'MTF isn't so hot'
Honda designed it for there gearboxes....

Is it hard to engage any gears from stationary?

If it is the clutch isn't disengaging properly and I'd try bleeding it.

I would advise a proper gear oil too mtf should do if you've got a standard LSD

In my opinion its over priced and doesn't last very long until it needs changed. Half way through a track day and gears get sticky.

I used to do plenty of track days on MTF with no issues at all or ever! Yeah I agree only for a helical diff.

have a luck at your gear linkage i had what sounds like the same problem and thought the worst but on closer in inspection a bolt had come out of the gear linkage

use land rover mtf oil

NO! It's a myth that there the same, I did a thread about 7 months ago after testing the breakdown rates at work on an oil analysis machine... They weren't even similar!

yeh didnt see your post above its exactly the same either way honda or land rover mtf. it even say on the bottle its say suitable for honda and land rovers wasnt disagreeing lol

sorry about the missed letters laptops battered

Dude, I'm telling you, a multi million Pound oil analysis machine found the propeties to be different, to a degree that would hinder rather help. All been said they are not the same, no matter how many roumers you hear!!

BTW I'm not insinuating that landrover mtf94 is bad for your honda gearbox, I'm stating that it's not as effective as the oil Honda designed for thier gearboxes...mtf3 don't forget landrovers don't have helical LSD's ;)

upgrade : I bought today honda mtf!!! It cost me 95 euros :/ but the problem is not solved it did some difference but still the gears engage hard ll try find some gear linkages to test them!! Could it be the pressure plate?? Some engineer here told me that because I changed the clutch disc lately it might be the pressure plate!!!

I think i know what the problem is try grease the pivot points of the gear linkage on the gearbox where the linkage shafts enter the box.

greased the pivots checked the gear linkages everything look in good condition!!! changed my shifter as i had a quick shift on and put the oem(ek9 one) greased that changed the seals still no difference any other ideas guys?? any points where i can understand if the gear linkages are not as they must be on the shape??
