Well a few weeks ago I picked up a rather nice but tatty Frost White EK3. The car has the 1.5 SOHC engine, and has covered 121,000 miles.

The owner before has used rattle cans to respray the bump side strips and the front and rear bumpers, but these are things I plan on fixing.

When I got the car I soon realised that it hadn't been serviced in a long time, so have since changed the air filter, Oil (magnetec 10w/40), Oil Filter, Rotor Arm and Dizzy cap.

I have also spent about 4 hours cleaning the insides as well as the outside.

As for my plans, well I have ordered a new front lower bumper, rain/wind side deflectors, clean side repeators, induction kit.. and am trying to sort a rear bumper.
I also plan on fitting some new coilovers and putting some smaller wheels on as I think the OZ 17" are just TO big.

nice start..You sound to be going in the right direction mate...Best of luck

good project, what coilovers and rims are you thinking of for the future??

I was going to buy some Ek9 wheels but understand the hubs are different, 114 and not 100.
I just think the HUGE 17" wheels are to big and slow the little 1.5L down to much. So 16" will be the biggist I even consider.
As for coil overs, I'm clueless as to what I want, adjustable rebound etc would be nice, maybe the Gaz ones ?

My new front bumper is on route with TNT, and my induction kit turned up this morning, so I will be busy on my day off tomorrow :)

Well today I fitted my front bumper with the help from a couple of mates, I also did the induction system, but only used the short pipe, as the long arm pipe left the air filter right by the mesh on the front bumper.. and I didn't want it to get wet.
I also fitted the wind/rain deflectors, and my new white side light bulbs.

The bumper was a nightmare to fit, but it doesnt look to bad, now to sort the rear one.

In my opinion, you´ve just Killed your car...but that´s just me

És Português?

Cheers

the bumper looks all right, something different,
get some buddy club side skirts and rear bumper and mugen spoiler

but get rid of the wheels, they look very bad.

The wheels are on the "to do" list as I plan on fitting some 16" white ones, and my rear Mugen styled bumper has been "lost", which I'm not happy about.
I have fitted the long arm which lowers the filter down to behind the mesh on the front bumper, and I think once its finished, along with my carbon bonnet it will look less agressive.
The front bumper was bought as a cheap (£150) quick fix due to the oem one being broken badly. I would of preffered one of an EK9 but couldn't find one quick enough. I think the photo doesnt help it. Here's another one from slightly futher away.

I don't mind buying something for my car, and if I don't like it then I can always change it :)

Your car looks gey now. Adding that induction kit also is a waste of money, it will not effect the car in anyway performance wise.
As for the bumper, well the OEM looks better and clean, not in my opinion, just in general knowledge. Not only does it look like something from The Fast and Furious, it also dosn't even match the colour of your car. Also where I come from £150 isn't cheap, as you said that's what you paid for that POS molded fibreglass you call a front bumper.

Please tell me that's not a shopping list on your wing under the trim?

If you're going to keep that bumper, I would suggest keeping the 17's, then it'll go with the rest of it.

Maybe it was a blessing that your rear bumper got lost in the post.

Trust me the car looks a lot better in the flesh than in the photo's, as the photo gives it that extra chinned look. As for saying it looks "gey now", well that's cool mate, each to there own.

The colour mis-match is due to the bumper still being in it's base primer as I didn't see the point in spraying just the front bumper when I intend on changing the rear one as well, and that way I can spray them both at the same time, plus it's not actually fibreglass, but you weren't to know that lol.

As for a shopping list, no it's not, its a Red "S" sticker lol.

The induction system does actually work as I've put it on the rolling road and it added around 8bhp, and seeing that I'm in the trade and there for it didn't cost me very much, I thought what the heck "it will do" until I do my engine swap later in the year.

I have fitted the long armed pipe which mounts the air filter lower down in the front of the car, which increases the cold air intake into the engine, and surely you know that the more cold air flow you can get into the engine the better, as colder air has a higher density than warm air and it aids fuel combustion, and before you say it, I have fitted a Injen Pre-Filter.
The rear bumper was a Mugen bumper, which I would of thought you would of liked, maybe not then, but again, hey ho.

i think that front bumper is grand , will look much better when you have the rest of the kit on it and a carbon fibre bonnet should finish it off nicely

OK, well I came back from walking the dog this morning (around 5:30) and I walked around the corner to my house, I stopped and looked at my car and the words of SlipCivic (Samuel?) ran through my head to the music by teriyaki boyz - tokyo drift (fast and furious).. and it wasn't something I liked hearing lol..

So SlipCivic you will be pleased to hear I know have two plans, the oem bumper is still in the yard, and I'm going to repair the split and prob add a little oem chin spoiler to it. I'm actually thinking of putting all the bump strips back to oem black as well as the grill. That way it retains the look of an iLS and not a moddied up Ek3. I think doing that will give me a bigger smile when I do my engine swap :)

I will still spray the front bumper, and then see how I feel by swapping them both around, I had planned on fixing the oem bumper but due to time and work I couldn't have the car off the road.

Good man, you won't regret that choice!
