Hey,

Im new to the forums so hi,

im coming up for 17 soon and im looking to get a civic of some sort, im not necessarily looking for an EK9 (but they are by far my favourite) but im just looking for a civic that i can upgrade and mod and hopefully keep for a long time, it also has to be cheap on insurance, i really like the shape of EK9 or EJs and i was wondering what price range i would be looking at and is there any other types of civic that are worth a go?

thanks guys

Welcome to the forum m8 :)

£2000 at ur age on a 1.5 is really good! For an ej9 1.4 u can pay anywhere between 700-2500 depending on condition, spec, mileage etc

you will probably have to wait til ur older to contemplate buying an ek9 there are still people in there twenties who are struggling to get insured, becuase there imports.

I own a civic jordan myself and they vary in price from £3000 to £5500 they are a 1.6 so maybe too big an engine again for a first car.

there are plenty of civics around its really what insurance prices you get.

thanks, yeah EK9s are a little bit out of my price range on insurance haha

i only have about £3000 to spend on car and insurance so im kinda looking for something under a grand, you think an EJ9 would be the right way to go?

A clean looking 1.4 ej9 is what your looking for mate . get it looking nice and low :) . you dont want speed a priority especially with it being your first car . think about an ek9 when you are early 20's

Definately EJ9, its still a 1.4 so won't be too cheap to insure but would be a great first car. Better than driving around in a one litre yaris. Plenty of Mods that can be done and i'm sure you'd enjoying tinkering with it. You can swap a k20 in in when you can insure it :D

Price wise £1000 could find you a nice clean EJ9

Best of luck mate

and :welcome:

Just look around pistonheads, ebay, autotrader etc. I'm sure there will be a few cheap low mileage ones out there :nice:

yeh pistonheads and even ebay are ur best shouts :) :) theres plenty of nice ejs around right now for good prices, and they are great bases for projects :)

Hi mate n welcome the ej9 would be your best bet as stated above but a nice eg 1.5 lsi shouldn't be that much more than the ej9 look about n get a quote before you buy mate :)

Ye that looks alright mate n insurance should be ok to

Hi, I m in the same water like you. But I m 18 still without license, still taking driving lesson hope too get license soon... My dream car is civic with k20.. I think civic with vtec engine I get trouble to insure it ? Anyone know...?

welcome to the site mate, thats the problem with hondas even the 1.4 ej's and that are quite expensive to insure if you are a young driver. Think tou might find the 1.5 a bit pricey insurance wise you can only check and see. Good reliable wee cars though and a good starting point for a project :nice:

yeah man you'll be forking out a couple thousand easy if you get quotes at all on a vtec honda at your age with no driving experience etc.

and a k20 civic you'll be waiting a few years for sadly :((

yeah im just looking for a good looking car that has the opportunity to become a fairly decent car, possibly go on track days eventually.

I've been looking on the internet for EJs but to be honest im not entirely sure whether some of them are EJs or not.

how can i tell if a car is an EJ or EK? because to me they look almost exactly the same without seeing the engine etc.?

welcome to eknine mate,

theirs no difference tbh mate, ive got an ej9 and there's no difference from the ek4 and ej9's, just take your time when buying tho as you dont wanna get a ringer etc, try and buy from an old lady lol, make sure they have full service history as its easy to clock civics... check all the bushes etc the usually stuff and enjoy, good luck with purchase etc

That's a great quote, when I was 17 I was getting quoted close to 4k for a 1.4 EG! In the end I went with a Yaris 1.0 and 4 cars later I'm finally in a Civic :p

ah okay, cos on autotrader its full of old ladies who don't even know what car they own just 'civic' but i guess it doesn't matter as long as its a civic its worth buying.

Yeah, my dads mate owns an insurance company and he said he'd do it for 35% off the usual rate :)

Can your dad do me that deal too :D

No real difference looks wise between the ek4 and ej9, just the engine.

Try and find a low mileage, 1 lady owner type car that has be well looked after. You won't go wrong with one of them. and probably easier to stick to the 1.4 insurance wise. :nice:

aha, all my mates have been saying this too (about the insurance) and im srry hes just doin it at a discount as im a very careful driver xD sorry guys, wish i could help out.

But about the car, yh i've been looking around, the decent cars seem to have 100k+ miles but the dented crappy cars have alot less lool.

Im sure ill find a good one eventually :D
