Hi guys,

Am serioulsy thinkin of getting an ep3 type r. Now i do a fair amount of drivin to and from work approx 50 miles a day!

Are they heavy on juice if drivin normally and also coming from an ek9 are they just as good handling wise for when i get to attack the twistys!

They are rare enough around my area and i hear they are popular in the uk so if any1 can advise or feedback would be great

Thanks guys

Owned 1 awhile ago, Brill engine better on fuel than the 9 tbh, does not handle as well as the 9 imo it understeers to much. But on the whole i would reconmend 1, good fun to drive and an engine that will go and go and go. And you can pick them up cheap now!

I think no matter what way you look at it - its a downgrade from an ek9.

However i wouldnt not reccomend one but i find it strange that you are selling an ek9 to get one.

There a better daily drive than an ek9 there faster too. A decent set of tyres, geo set up and a kpro hondata and they'll show an ek9 up down teh twisties too :)

How'd you work that out when an EK9 has a better power to weight ratio? Maybe better top end but not accell stock vs stock

Dump a b18c in an ek9 and wave bye bye to a UK EP3

And UK EP3 without an LSD wont show up an EK9 on track and the heavier chassis will never be as agile.

As an everyday car the EP3 is better, but if your still going to do track days you will notice its not as focused and sharp as the ek9.....IMO

Perhaps DC5??? Thats what i would get

Had both & would never go back to EP3 I have a real problem with the EP3 (EPS) horrible Im a hydraulic power steering man lol The mpg is slightly better on ep3 but only noticble on long motorway journeys where the revs sit a little lower due to 6th gear. Dont expect a massive difference in mpg I find my ek9 better on fuel at lower speed runs 30-60mph.

And agree with virtue about dc5 has got better steering Hydraulic But then much more expensive than a uk ep3 :(

For a daily driver...an EP3 is a good choice. I'm sure he is aware of the pro's and con's of an EK9 where acceleration and handling is concerned but do remember him getting an EP3 is because he has to do more miles which is fair enough. Least he is staying with honda and not going to a german diesel! lol

Get an EP3 mate...great all round car.

Your right JDMarron it is a great all rounder & they go for crazy cheap these days & for the price they are performance bargains. Oh & it was not acceleration i was taliking about it was commuting around the 30-60mph speeds the ek9 returning better mpg lol Just thought i would clear that up. Last thing i want to do is come across as someone who thinks the ek9 is the fastest car in the world :) lol

EDIT sorry JDMarron looks like u ref someone elses post

Cheers guys. I know its not as fun as the ek9. I sold my ek9 after 2 yrs of ownership there last month and although i will buy another one at some stage I want to get something different now as i had another ek before the ek9.

The DC5 is tempting alright but the facelift EP3's are savage looking to! Dont worry I wont be buyin a german diesel anyways

Whatever i get has to be a daily driver so as to keep the fuel bills reasonable enough!

I've been looking for JDM EP3's here in Ireland and cant find any facelift ones :(

You wont find many face-lift JDM Ep3's mate. I think i've only ever seen one across the entire UK. They cost a lot of money to import it seem's and when they get over here i think it was up for like £11k or more.

I spy with my little eye...your EG6 on Pistonheads. Are you changing to an EP3?

AH! Champ white you got me! lol

It's one thing i said i'd never do...buy an EP3! and now look haha

This Eg6 just is't enough for me mate to be honest. Since downgrading from the teg i just havent really been totally happy with it. I think i've grown out of the Eg's which is a shame. I just feel like a boy racer in it for some reason so yea i've decided to put it up for sale and look out for a possible EP3.

Still not 100% yet tho...i've just always had the idea of a lowered stripped out EP3 on 16" wheels! I still havent really seen any about with the look i wanna go for so i think i might try it out. I havent put the car up for sale on any forums yet tho..

I see everything that happens on Pistonheads under Honda :p

Fair enough mate, EP3's really are a brilliant buy for the prices they are going for these days and I can imagine going from B20 teg to B16a2 EG is a bit of let-down too.
