Hey all . this weekend i was on the highway and i was in about third gear . i was high in rpms and i notice my rpms starting to fall. i had the pedal at full throttle when i noticed it . i then shifted to fourth it gave me a little jerk and then the rpms kept falling. i was totally clueless as to what was going on . i then shifted to fifth as i figure i should just cruise and then the car shut off on me ... i pulled off to the side and i tried starting the car with the key but i didnt get anything. when i came to a complete stop i tried the key again and i only heard the starter screaming but no other noises. i had to have a tow truck bring it home i have no clue where to start. i pulled off the valve cover and my timing belt is there from what i can see my valves and springs are fine i tried pulling off the starter and i tried to rotate the flywheel and that was a fail the flywheel did not even budge... anything guys ?? oo and i forgot to mention its a D series 1.6 non VTEC .. i know alot of you guys are b series but any general help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you check the cambelt timing ? Has this car ever been tuned ? What do the spark plugs look like ? Post some pictures up if possible

well i havent tuned or touched the cambelt or distributor since i bought the car its almost stock it only has headers intake and exhaust. i check the spark plugs that same night and they are all fine normal wear no sign of oil or anything like that and yes i can post pictures just give me a few im trying to upload some more recent pictures of the car for my build thread lol thanks for replying quickly

Check fuel pressure to, is your engine light on ? if so check the cel.

yes i have half a tank. i dont know if its fuel. i tried using a breaker bar on the crank and it didnt budge...im going to have some pictures up of the valvetrain and timing belt. and also my starter works fine.

no im guessing its done .. but i dont understand because i was at high RPMS but i never heard anything bang or clank or click ... nothing i figured i would have hear a valve piston or something bang.

How much oil is in it ? have you tried removing the spark plug and tried to rotate it ?

ive removed the spark plugs they are fine ... ive removed the starter and i have tried rotating the motor with a breaker bar ..

Any luck rotating it ? If not drain the oil and see what comes out with it. i.e. metal

yea that was going to be my next thing i was looking through the little holes where the spark plugs are and they seem to be in the right position i was wondering if it could possibly be a piston ring or something and maybe i was losing compression until it shut off idk .. im taking every wild guess i can

Can you rotate it with the spark plugs out ? Check the oil and report back

ok i just checked oil and its about half way between the two dots but slightly closer to the full marker .. i had topped it off the week before .. it was about the same spot when i topped it off .. ima do the spark plugs now

Ok, i ment drain it and check for metal shavings. If somethings really fu*ked you should have a load of them in the oil. If you drain the oil into a clean container then tip it into another clean container you should notice the shavings in the first container.

ok just took the spark plugs out and it still doesnt crank.. im just going to have to wait and just take it to my mechanic.. i was hoping i didnt have to plus he doesnt come back to town until wednesday...

I'm sorry but if you can't crank it with the spark plugs out then something serious is up with it. Do what i said with the oil when you get chance.

If you want advise feel free and i will do my best to help you and point you in the right direction

sounds like it's seized mate, best option is to strip the engine and inspect

yea im thinking the same thing it doesnt even rotate when turning the crank ... NOT to mention it does have over 200,000 miles

...its a D. They are at a very low cost to replace $350-500 USD. Just replace it with a new one. Or better yet, buy a B and be done with it. D engines do not have very good oiling properties, combine this with weak rods and you have a possible problem without a proper oil pressure gauge.
