Engine not keeping tempterature?

did you sort out your issue?? I am having the same problem, but fitted a new thermostat and its still the same. coolant will warm up sitting still but cools alot when driving.

Stezie-
Your problem sounds like the thermostat as well but since you already fitted one I would check to make sure your install is correct (check gasket) if that's ok then you may need to just make sure you're not low on coolant or there's no air in the system.

Nope no air in the system.. new gasket for thermostat aswell and and it only goes in one way beacuse of the nipples and groves on the houseing..

I double checked that the system was bled by taking off a few water pipes when it was cold and they were filled with coolant.

I started the car this morning and drove 8 miles to a guy who has an exhaust gas anaylst machine and when i got there the bottom pipe was stone cold..

The emissions show a missing cat, which i know i have to get sorted, but no over fueling or under fueling.... crazy car..

Weird because what you describe is exactly what it does when the system is airbound.

Got the same problem

cant it be the temp sensor?

Which one? There are 2; one for the ECU and another for the dash gauge. Why Honda did that I do not know. If the dash sensor failed, there would be no reading at the dash. If the ECU sensor failed there would be no VTEC.

This members issue really reads like a failing/"sticky" thermostat.

With all due respect Stezie; do you how to properly bleed air out of the cooling system? Taking hoses off to check for air, will only let air into the system.

Tama- I think he means that he removed the breather tube hoses which is another way to remove air from the system. I still think the best way is using a spill free funnel.

I think i have a similar problem, the gauge will go ever so slightly up if my heating is on. If its not it bounces from fully cold to just a tad over. Sticking thermostat?

yup, bled it exactly per ther honda work shop manual instructions.. I even jacked the car up so that the radiator cap was the highest point, so any air could makes its way out..

What i can't figure, is if its sitting still and I keep an idle of 3000 rpm, the bottom pipe eventually heats up and will get as hot as the top pipe... I take it for a spin and it goes cold..

If your water pump is not pumping coolant due to warn pump blades, or if the rad is clogged would be my guess. --or both?

The thought kinda crossed my mind..... would be excuse to tackle the timing belt seeing as I have no history with the car..

Is there a way to test the efficiency of the pump while its on the car?

samuek9- I would start with a thermostat make sure the system is bled correctly and check for any leaks

yup, i agree. flush out the system while your at it to be sure no clogs in the system. proper coolant and new thermostat...start there.
