Since putting my car in the new shell it seems to take ages to warm up, and then it will warm upto full temp, but then after a drive (especially in this weather) the temperature needle is almost as the bottom, Still engages Vtec, But just reads as really cold, Still drives like its warm but says it isn't ??

Is it just a sticking thermostat??? that's my only guess really as its done it on both sets of dials so its definitely not them!

Cheers for any help again!

:nice:

Yep thermostat. Only about £7 from factors and about 10 mins to fit. I have changed loads of these on ek9's.
Dunx

Yes sticky thermostat, had the same thing happen to 2 of my previous Honda's.

Go for OEM honda (£23ish) or Blueprint (£19). I recently put a blueprint stat in my ek9 and it was 100% identical to the OEM ek9 one I removed

definitley thermostat, i need to change mine as ive noticed it starts to cool down on long decents and fuel consumption has gone up,

do you have a gap were the AC should be? as when i took out the ac in my vti i noticed the engine temps would drop in the cold weather! due to all the cold air getting in the engine bay.

I certainly do have a gap where the air con was, and also have no lower splash guard.....

i thought that may have had something to do with it :S but it never affected my EK4 before i swapped it all into the EK9, My guess was that the thermostat has gone sticky over the period the engine was out of the car without any coolant in it. while we were swapping everything over between cars as it was out for a couple of days!

i would advise getting the a/c replacement panel anyway bud, as it keeps all the **** from the roads getting in your engine bay and corroding your manifold. i got mine for nothing at a scrapy's too. :nice:

Got the same problem

cant it be the temp sensor?

Aaahhh it could be that! as we had to fiddle with temperature sensor when trying to get Vtec to work with the conversion harness iirc :S

Too Many possibilities.

Im assuming its the temp sensor or temp sending unit

Anyone can point out where they are located

left side of the cylinder head single pin connector. between and below the distributor and the vtec solenoid iirc

I dont think it will be the temp sender as this would either work or not work.

I guess it must be a sticky thermostat,

il just replace the thermostat, if its not that, il replace the temp sensor, if its not that, il swear alot!!

Thanks for the help

Just noticed my spelling Fail on the title....... Oops

If you work on cars, you need to know most of the basic, a few intermediate and 1 or 2 "advanced" swear words. I think this is the law in 14 UN countries.

did you sort this after Neil? was it the thermostat?

U guys are lucky.....
A sticky thermostat only increases the fuel comsumption and lower the engine temperature.

Where I come from the average temperature of the weather is 32 degreesC. Coupled with heavy traffic in a hot afternoon, a sticky thermostat that is overlooked will probably cause overheating and a blown head gasket
