Bringing this thread back, I found out that the only difference between 99-00 USDM tails and JDM 99-00 tails is the JDM tail lights have no rear lower reflector. The turn signal color was all in my mind, but I liked the thought of a darker turn signal so much I did a little slight painting.
Here Is a piece of my jdmuniverse.com build up thread, where I totally refreshed my tail lights.
I will have to make new gaskets, these leak.
This has to be pryed/pullled off the light housing.
You can almost see all the nastiness in the tail light.
I set the oven to this temp, and set each tail light for 14 minutes each. There is a unique hot tail light smell when you bake the lights. If you do this yourself, dont worry about the plastic melting, the only thing that will happen is the lense sealent softening up.
NASTY
I ended up looking into the other tail light, and even though I didnt plan on it, I decided to repaint the inside of this one too.
Sealant goo on the light can be easily taken off with some oOps, or 3m adhesive cleaner.
When I finally put these lights back together, I will put this exta silicone where needed.
Painted!
I bought a whole bunch of different silver paints for the lights, but I wasnt happy enough with the shinyness of the one I used at first. (middle) I repainted over the dull silver with the paint shown on the bottom.
This may spark some controversy with some, but I painted the turn signal housing a darker silver color. I did not touch the reverse light housing.
Props to my friend Dan for telling me about wet sanding.
I used lots of water, a sanding block, and grits from 400-600-1000-1500-2000-3m rubbing compound-3m polishing compound-Mothers plastic polish.
The pefect-it II compounds are very expensive and I will eventually use them on my paint with a buffer.
How it started out.
