i see alot of ek9s that have upgraded to a set of coilovers, to replace their standard shock and springs. For my last couple of cars, i have used coilovers, which have been excellent, however, what im trying to ask is, isn't the ek9 suspension already really good for track and street? i want to lower mine, and would have that that eibach spring would've been enough.
my 9 has not arrived yet, so anyone with experience with any sort of info would be much appreciated!:)

Stock EK9 suspension is very strong and can cope with hard situations but has its limits too......I have made lots of mods up to now(cams, header, S-AFC, head work....around 210 bhp) and the car has been improved a lot in performance. The suspension are still capable to hold it in corners but with some shaking....... :nerv: and still haven't installed a Power FC yet (planning this summer ) So, definitely I will have to upgrade the suspension. If you are planning to go for a complete setup either for track or street then It would be a good idea to upgrade your suspension for proper handling :nice:

Stock EK9 suspension is excelent for track and street. I use the stock suspension, my car is making very competitive times at the track with it, but as manosek9 say , it has it's limits, for me it's ok for now :woot:

if you do just springs (which i dont recomend) get some h&r or tein stech. other than that i recomend a good coilover, damping adjustability plays a major roll imo.

dont use eibach mate they only produce a set of springs for the ek4 and the spring rates are much softer than the ek9 ,eibach are normally good springs but dont make the mistake of putting aftermarket springs rated for an ek4 on to a ek9 ,ive just put spoon progressive springs on my ek9 and there a specific ek9 fittment i.e a stiffer spring rate than standard ek9 springs also it's now a bit lower :nice:

so would you recommend the spoon progressive springs over coilovers for street use?!? do you have any pics of you car wih the springs fitted? thanks

hi... i hve spoon progressive springs for almost yr now on my ek4.

these srings offers less body roll & jst a little bit stiffer. These r progressive springs meaning they feel harder the faster u go...:nice:

btw: i want to upgrade my sus to ek9 dampers & sway bars. Roughly how long do the stock ek9 dampers last for???:thanks: as ive seen a set on ebay taken frm 40/50kms ctr...

Your EK4 is lowered to the perfect height for me :nice:

hi, i would like to ask is there a height difference from vti springs and ek9 ones?
or should i go for coilovers instead for my EJ9. i used to have a 60mm 50mm drop front, rear respectively, but Glasgow roads are disgusting with potholes and speedbumps and low dips, so it was scratching the underside of the car, so i changed it to vti springs til i get something else, a friend recommended i get ek9 ones? but someone also mentioned to me to get coilovers. Any advice??

thanks.

You don't need coilovers, good ones are expensive and complete overkill for an EJ9, and cheap ones are simply crap. To some people, riding low is all that matters and for those people I wish them well, but I'll be the first to say 'I told you so' (and I have done, many times and unsympathetically) when it all goes wrong.

For people that want good suspension instead of 'mad tizzle y0' sump scraping gayness, I'd recommend a set of Koni dampers and either Eibach sportline springs or Ground Control coilover sleeves. With GC you can pick you spring rates and for an EK I calculated a ballpark ideal figure to be 270lb front and 170lb rear.

Also, and purely in MY opinion, I would steer well clear of progressive springs. They do not work the way you expect them to, with uprated dampers the soft bit of the spring results in a massively overdamped ride which is worse than if you had stiffer rate linear springs, not to mention the fact that purely be virtue of being progressive they are unpredictable in the corners.

I currently have Koni yellows and wanky Tanabe progressive springs which suffer from what I mentioned above. Having done the research, and once I've had all my suspension off, measured and weighed to verify the numbers, my money will be going on some GC 285/185lb springs in the next couple of weeks.

ive just baught a standard ek9 setup for my ek3, its a great setup especially with thicker arbs
