hi guys, bacically I have a pretty rusty ek4 :( I have had the car 4 years and had the rust done when I got it fully resprayed but it has come back and is getting a lot worse.

now I have two options, first is to buy an ek9 rolling shell with no rust and swap all of my bits onto it? or to get mine repired again :/

how much could I get a clean ek9 shell for? literally just the shell on wheels, no bumpers ect

cheers guys

Well ur gonna get a shell (ek9) then put all ur bumpers etc on it and then it will still need to be resprayed so all bumpers etc match. Chances of getting an immaculate shell with zero rust will be slim unless in not long in country.

Better option would be to get ur rust fixed properly this time and underseal it preventing any rust from coming back. Get full rear quaters and do the job correctly. Take it last time you just cut out the rust then welded in replacement bits?

^^agreed, finding a rust free honda is very rare so depending how bad yours is id say treat it to new panels and then seal it properley. If its past the point of no return then id be looking at re-shelling. Try get some pictures up of the ek4 so we can all see what your dealing with

carz2.co.uk is a good site for replacement panels if you haven't been on the website already

is your ek4 still an a2? or have you swapped it for something better like b16b/ b18c / k20? In my eyes, if it's still a b16a2 I wouldn't do the swap, just sell and buy a 9.

If you really want to keep your civic, I'd get the arches redone. When was it last done? was it done properly?

EK9 shell prices can vary but recently going for stupid prices

Hope you're happy with the choice you go with :)

I reshelled and found that a pain in the backside

I have an ek4 with b18c and s80 box. All ek9 bumpers and splitters and spoon rep spoiler, its milano red and i love the colour so if i got another then i would get it red agin, next question is, where can i get the complete rear wing panels ?

What way was the car repairs of rust before rubbed to bare metal or was bits cut out?? Problem with rusty arches is if small bits are cut out and repaired there could be more waiting to come threw you don't get better to replace full arches!! The arches can be got at the above carz2.co.uk or the best option is buy full rear quarters from Honda but for a price go threw the bodyshop ull be using I think it's around 400 a side.
Get a good look under the car if sills, boot floor, in behind rear bumper and behind front wings are all rusty your better cutting your looses stripped it of the parts you want and scrap it because it'll not be worth the money....... Was in same position bought a eg and wanted to put it on the road/ mate had it got it for like 60 quid lol turned out to be far worse than I thought but didn't regret buying it because it broke for more than I paid

Rear quarter panels are something like 240 for one side and 280 for the other from Honda. Then there is obviously the labour costs on top of that.

As far as i am aware, the only rust is on the rear outwr arches(body) and yhe inner arches where they meet, can you get the inner arch pannels ?

Inner arches are about £160 each. P/N PFKL743005 and PFKL749297 from lings.

ok thanks for the help, all depends what it will cost to get it done :/ would be tempted to do it myself but I know its not an easy job

Your best of getting another clean ek4 shell or just buy a ek9 and re shell everything in there

No matter how much you spend on it you won't get it back plus its 2nd time you getting rust treated, isit worth it?

if I was you just get another shell

well this was my original thought, but how much can I get an ek9 rolling shell for ? would literally only need the bare shell but rolling. any ideas ?

I picked up a bare ek9 shell without an ounce of rust anywhere for £195, but it was a bare shell with nowt on it.

Well ideally im after an ek9 shell but thanks, and ye it would need to be bare, i thibk im just going to repair it for now and if it ever comes back then i will get a new shell, thanks for the help guys

Best bet is find a GOOD body shop, I personally use Resto Shack (Google RestoShack, Devon).
They built the HEL S2000 & the work on my old Eunos was like it came from the production line & tones of photos to show all the work done.

If you pay a shop to fix rust then it should be fixed, not rusting back straight away!

All of the ek4 and ek9 shells I looked at were either silly money or rusty, in the end I brought a complete 1999 ej9, 2 owners from new, 44'000 miles and free from any rust for £560.

Spent weeks grinding small areas of surface rust out of mine, in some areas where I was unable to reach (such as behind the cage) it's starting to go again.

I'm half tempted to get it acid bathed and re-done from scratch, with the up to date methods of metal protection once neutralised. Then I can rebuild again without having to worry (as it will be trailored to and fro the track)
