I'm semi-seriously looking at an ek9 ~ 97/98, but it would be my daily driver (as I'm sure it is for many of you). I was wondering what upkeep is like, servicing costs, parts, fuel etc... Are they as dependable as your regular vti? And are they as much fun as I imagine?! I had a quick search already, but if I've missed a previous post sorry, give me the link to that!

cheers good people

The servicing costs should be same as the civic vti, since the car is a "sports" car you will have to buy better brake pads, brake fluid and stuff like that, the price range of the services should not vary that much, this car can be and excellent daily drive car, when mine was stock, I was making like 55 km per gallon :woot: :bow:

honda=reliable
In my opinion, Honda and Toyota or Toyota and Honda :D are not only the most reliable Japanese cars but the most reliable cars in the market refering to average customers like...us....:p
Actually Toyota rocked this year No1 in sales worldwide!

I'd pretty much throw all japanese cars into the 'more reliable than anything else' catigory, the koreans are comeing though. I've had nissans since I was 17, nothing else - never any mechanical problems. I was just meaning, 110bhp/litre is quite a lot, I know the regualar b16a's run happilly well into the 130k's and more, but how does the b16b stand up. I've never seen one for sale with more than 80k, but i guess thats cos people don't drive them quite as much...

They're only just run in at 100k:D

Seriously though, they're just as reliable and as cheap to run as a VTi.

Your way of thinking about this issue is not correct mate, first of all bhp is not a factor to measure reliability and duration(always talking about untouched engines). More powerful engines run always parts of better quality, i.e B16a, so to last more or less the same as the normal ones. B16b came out with even better parts and specifications than B16a to stand up with higher bhp, not to say that is more durable also.........However, there is also the other side of the coin i.e people who own racing cars and never never give the engine the slight tension cuz they fear the worst :angry: or cuz they say they want to keep it fresh :blabla:. What's the reason to own a racing car and drive it like a donkey from the day you bought it?? I've heard of a case in which someone had this way of thinking, and gradually, his EK9 experienced some problems with VTEC engagement because he was never using it.....
My B16B has 100000 kms on the clock running heavy mods and is still the same as new. I abuse it with caution! :D
