Personally I think, when compared to any conventional car, the EK9 is right up there with the greats: helical LSD as standard which works brilliantly, strong gearbox, great stock suspension suitable for track and road and a fantastic engine that is difficult to get big gains from without a lot of money. Once you start to modify it, it takes away from this specialness.
It's great value for money as standard and without big money thrown at it will only get minimal gains in my opinion - for instance the EK9 rallycar used stock suspension, which was absolutely fantastic, until Proflex was fitted costing £3k. Big money for a small gain where the stock parts were brilliant and didn't really need to be changed.
When you buy a standard EK9, everything on it is fit for purpose (whether it's for trackdays, commuting or a weekend warrior) and there is no NEED to do anything to it from the suspension to the calipers. Even racing; add a bolt-in rollcage, performance pads, extinguisher, killswitch, good tyres and you have a competitive car from my experience at rallies.
Of course, people like to do things to them to suit their own wants, but it's unfair to say that the EK9 actually NEEDS anything doing to it, it's a brilliant car in its own right when compared to any conventional car.
