planning on a donkey swap this winter in my ej9.. its a facelift 1999 d14z engine!
planning on dropping a d16y8.. or d16z6..

was talking to a mechanic the other day and he said that because mines is a facelift il have alot of bother because of the loom.. something about none of my electics will work.. eg lights and indicators..

just wondering if any one nos if hes rite or is he full of s*** lol

and wat all parts will i need for the conversion obvisly the engine, gearbox, loom, ecu.. but will i need the clocks out of the other car brakes shafts??

thanks lads any info will be appreciated!!

for the hassle and money to do it i'd say a B16 would be more worth while unless there is a specific reason you want a D16Z6.... turbo ??
sorry i didn't answer your question though mate

hadnt really looked into turbo tbh lad just in northern ireland your at least 1500 for b16 set up.. were as d16 bout 300.. lol

The mechanic you were talking to was talking utter poo about the loom! You can plug and play if you get a full B16 swap from a facelift VTI. No hassle simple as anything :)

not sure on a d series swap..............never done it

my old ej6 (1997) had a d16y7 and i swapped it for a b16a2 from a 2000 model, all i needed to make it work was a obd2a engine loom and a obd1 ecu.

how old is the car???

OBD1 92-95

OBD2A 96-98

OBD2B 99-00

it all depends on what year the car(chassis) is and what year the engine came from

OBD1's came with different injectors and alternator

OBD2A's had 4 plugs on the ecu side of the harness(everything the same)

OBD2B's had 3 plugs on the ecu side of the harness(everything the same)

all the above is for a b series swap not sure on a d series? cant see to much of a difference????

should of said "firewall side" of the harness

including the green plug that goes under the dash! makes 4

if you exclude the green plug means a obd2b has only 2

With regards to basic electrics like lights horn etc that will all still work so the guy is full if ****.
I had a ekcoverted to a b16, you will need a p28/p30 ecu (for whichever engine you decide to put in)
with an obd1 to obd2b converter.
As for the engine loom Im not sure because I just used an obd1 loom that came with the engine and did a few tweaks to that.
You won't need to change the clocks, I kept the stock ej9 clocks with my b16 olny thing was that at 8500 rpm its off the revmeter/tacho.
You might have to change the power sttering lines sweep but I can't be too sure on that as its been a long time.

And mke sure that you have a base map on your ecu for the engine your using before you start it up or you won't be a very happy chappy.

Oh one more thing is that if you change the ecu. To obd1 the you will not have an immobiliwer(iirc) so it would be worth getting an aftermarket one.
As all obd2 ecu.s has the immobiliser built into them.
Good point and bad point is if you loose your key then you can get one made from any key cutter but that's why you would want to have some other form of security.
