Hi Guys as said i got a EJ9 with B16A2 conversion. at the moment i have drilled and grooved standard sized disks with green stuff brake pads.

my disks are old and warn and now are bent and vibrate a fair amount which creates some tense moments lol

one day i will get rear disks but for now whats the biggest front disks i can fit under my 15" rims im pretty clueless on this subject and have looked around some forums and have seem 282 is a good size and will be getting drilled once and probs yellow stuff pads

any help would be much appreciated and any suggestions on calipers would be brill :)

sorry for a repeated question just want to make sure

thanks

If you've only got 242s at the moment you will need to change to VTi uprights to fit the 262s and bigger. Alternatively you could look into the MeisterR 286mm upgrade which is a direct bolt on for your uprights.

First thing I would do is get the ek4 rear disk conversion .i personly have drive a ej9 without rear disks and I just wouldn't trust it.lol.mg zr work well on the front 2 or some preludes have 4/100.

I have heard the ej9s vary in there size some have the front disks of the vti as standered were as other have the 242s. from what iv seen it says the only way to no for sure is just go out and measure. please say if there is anything stupid im missing like i said i am clueless on this trying to learn as i go lol

and yer i dont exactly trust the car without back brakes tail waves around a bit but it will get done in time. the mg zr and prelude brakes to theys just bolt on my car as it is or is there some things im going to need to be changing? :s

prefacelift EJ9 --> 242 mm front discs
facelift EJ9 ----> 262 mm front discs (same as on EK4)

if your car is 98/99 you should measure it to be on safe side....

AFAIK, if you have rear drums, you have 242s, rear disks will be the EK4 setup.

Correct

The Facelift EJ9's had 262 / VTi fronts and rear drums.

Well that's what I thought I got a 2000 ej9 so was hoping it had 262 but will measure to be sure

But if I kept with them and just had drilled disk with yellow stuff pads do you guys think that will stop ok? I'm still pretty confused in what I would need for bigger disks :s

As said I will get back brakes but to be honest I really need to read up I don't know what I need or anything. But in time they will be there

I would doubt adding rear VTI disc brakes would add much stopping power over drums IMO infact they are more hassle than they are worth if you already have drums, I would do the 282 upgrade and it will give you plenty stopping power.

Agree with above... rear VTi brakes are for show(ing) mostly... :)

I use OEM 262 discs with TRW, ATE or Ferodo pads on my VTi and stopping power for street use is very good...

Out of interest what tyres are you running?

Most people will think bigger brakes will = better braking but if you dont have decent rubber dont expect good results.

If you want a proper increase in stopping power, sack the whole lot off for the full 282/262 setup and get decent pads front and rear. The 242mm rear discs are so weedy they are not worth upgrading to.

Good call on tyres, they are what stops the car, not the size of the brakes. :)

Sorry if this is a massively stupid question but is it a matter of just getting hold of disks? or is there more to it?

At the moment I got proxis T1Rs but am moving over to R1Rs soon hopefully

But will be deffinitely getting yellow stuff pads.

I do plan on tracking it every now and then just for fun, and in the right time and place do drive pretty hard so do want a strong brake setup on the front and see how it goes. If im still not happy I will go with back disks then look at fronts again but I think this will be ok.

I'm sure a few people would be able to tell you some scary stories about those T1R's !!

Anyway if you have the 262 set up already you would need Calipers for the 282 set up (ek9, uk or 98 spec dc2, prelude 2.2, legend, nsx) & 282mm 4x100 PCD Discs (MG ZR160 discs)

Depending exactly what disc / caliper combo you would have you are more than likely going to need to grind a slight bit off the caliper carrier.

Apart from that its a direct bolt on then bleed brakes.

Get Ferodo DS2500 over Yellowstuff.

Yer thats a good call thanks for saying will get my hands on some :) iv read with them its wise to get some diffrent fluid that can take the heat a little more and maybe some stainless hoses is that right?

Thanks FreakyParts once iv picked what caliper im going for will let you know and have a browse. im thinking ek9 once at the moment

Yer I wasent over impressed with the T1Rs tbh but trial and error :/

Thanks so much for your help everyone really put some light on what i need. I will start looking and im sure i will get stuck so you will probs hear from me again :)
