Right basically i have a EJ9 now and i have looked and i can get insured on a EK4 next year and will have near enough about £3k to buy one.. Or i could save up for another year after that and try to get a EK9..

But what i was wondering is...

Is there a huge difference between the ej9 and ek4 in speed and handling and is it worth putting my money into the car?

(Comments would be more appreciated if you have gone from a ej9 > ek4 > ek9 because you probably have more of an idea)

sounds like a dumb question but i just want to make sure

cheers,
matt

both have advanced four-wheel independant suspension with front and rear double wishbone suspension but in general the ek4 have a lower power-to-weight ratio than ej9.
the ek4 is considered the better handling car and safer as well ( crash bar in the front ) with no doubht its better built . engines are pretty much the same except 1.3 replaced by 90hp 1.4 and of course addition of b16b - standard engines such as 1.5 and 1.6 non vtec r supposed to hav more power but not sure . really id say get ek9

I Went from an EK4 to an EK9

HUGE Difference

I would imagine going from a 1.4 non vtec to a b16a2 will be a pretty impressive difference. so yeah,

If you can afford the car/insurance/running costs of an EK9 then get one, but an EK4 is a very good car!

i would say save some money and go directly for an ek9. Ek4 is night and day as for speed in comparison with ej9, almost double the power. Still ek4 in stock suffers in terms of handling. 160bhp can't give you driving pleasure in the way that the suspension handles them. Ek4 vs ek9 stands no chance if you ask me bearing in mind that you can easily access them in Britain! ek4 is worse in handling, steering feedback, appearance (in and out) it's heavier and it hasn't got the best ever made b16b engine.

i would say go for ek4 for a year and bring ur insurance down,. ive an ek4 vti but i dnt find it enough power to be honest.

I have an ek4 at the moment and was speaking to my mate about wanting an ek9 the other day... his argument was I got my car almost mint for £2500, thats less than half the price of a mint ek9 so I could then spend the extra cash and make my car outperform an ek9.. obviously the ek9 has a more advanced chassis but with aftermarket parts you can make an ek4 handle VERY well :)

this is what i was thinking also... because as much as i love ek9 and the looks i want something that is more unique than a C/W colour. I want a VTI colour but to perform as fast as a ek9

WHOOPS !! i thought the question was whats the difference between the eg and ek civic - SORRY ! ! ( dont know how i made dat mistake lol )

Just save up for an EK9, its alot of hassle to just buy an EK4 spend money on it(or leave it standard) then upgrade to an EK9. I heard there isn't that much difference in power but the huge difference is in the corners.

I was thinking the same as you but in the end I will just save up and buy an EK9 next year.

the thing is i can afford a ek4 next year but i wont be able to afford a ek9 a year after that i will only be 20. i want to be atleast 21 before i think about getting one.
and like a i said i dont want a c/w ek i want a diff colour but make it as quick as a ek9
and put 1.4 badges on it :nice: lol

An EK4 can be made quickish for sure, but it will never be an EK9...the cost to modify it & the insurance premiums of it being a "modified" lesser model would put me off.

Depends if you have the knowledge/tools/ability/friends/facilities to effectively mod an EK4....especially if you are looking @ EK9 levels of performance.....B18 swap, brakes, suspension etc etc. NOT cheap!

The best bits of advice i ever heard where "Don't build what you can buy" & "if you want to build a quick car, make sure its quick in the 1st place"..

Much better to start with a 9 in the 1st place IMO

If you like a fast car and to work on and modify cars, then get an EK4. If you want a very nice car that you don't have to do anything to to make it quick, wait out on the EK9.
If you know what you're doing, it's not very hard (or very expensive) to get to or past the EK9's performance. Nothing too drastic has to be done. You could have a car faster on the strip and the track without even opening the motor.

Sounds like you already made up your mind about the EK4.

Like Dino said without heavy tuning, you can just improve your driving technique to compensate for your cars ablilty. The cheapest form of tuning is improving your skills. :)

Yes, that's a very true statement. A good driver in an EK4 would murder a bad driver in an EK9 on the track.
But I was saying that you don't have to put too much money into an EK4 to make it perform faster than a stock EK9 (same driver). But I'm just saying faster, it would take more money to make it as refined.

Go for an ek4 to start with, the insurance on an ek9 will be insane i'm sure the ek4 will put a smile on your face when your at 8,000rpm lol. the ek4 is still in its own leauge in the 1.6 range compared to all the boyracers in the saxos n corsas. but yea were still get blasted by the 9!!!:shocked:
