ok so i havent been on for a WHILE . busy with work and just started school very busy schedule now .. but thought id give a few updates on how shes running ...car currently sits with stock SOHC d16y7 with minor bolt ons ... i just recently purchased a b16a the one out of a jdm del sol?? i think rated from factory at 170hp?? anyways .. was able to find a good deal on it WITH PAPERS .. got it for $750 (US) only thing missing was the tranny which did not bother me one bit because i wanna get a LSD tranny.. idk if that motor came lsd but anyways recent purchases are :

Walbro 255
AEM fuel rail
AEM fuel regulator
ACT Xtreme pressure plate hydro full face
obd2a to obd1 jumper harness

motor came with aem tru timing cam gears

i wanted some opinions ...
should i get type R cams or aftermarket cams?? i heard its better to switch the cams from the regular b16 to the type r. is this true? also would it be better type r or after market ... next ..LOL this is a funny one .... what other upgrades do you think i should invest in? im gunna be doing all of this with my mechanic he does pretty good work i have seen a DA that he has built with a B18c GSR. it has 194 WHP and its ready for turbo .. so its currently at 194 all motor :drive: .. i would like to be some where around there if not then at least 180 -185 WHP :naughty: on my b16 .. what upgrades do you think i should focus more on ?

the b16 is also coming with 4 2 1 headers dont remember the brand and for now i might still be running my custom 2.5 piping with ebay axle back

as for the internals my mechanic pretty much knows his stuff but i would like to get some feed back from you guys any bad / good experiences with certain pistons/rods/cams/valves/ETC.....
 
After market can be had more agressive than EK9 cams. Imho 185whp on a B16A is the wrong thing to want from your B16; would have been better to get any B18 cause I think the cost of a B16 making 185whp will be higher than a B18 with 185whp, not to mention the powerband that will be much smaller.

And then there's the thing of dyno's, one dyno shows 180bhp with cams, ecu, headwork, header etc, other dyno's show 185whp with only another intake :p
 
Well the only reason I went with theb16 is becuz I got apretty good deal on it with papers ... and im currently tight on money .. Also the reason I kinda jumped into is is becuz the stock d16 is slowly taking a dump on me .. Its done me well over 200K MILES and still never ened up on the side of the road lol .. So pretty pleased with that .. But I was jus wondering what are some important upgrades ... what cams are after market cams are reputable ? .. And also how hard would it be to make 180-185 whp on a b16 ? .. My mechanic had a crx with 150 whp in a Sohc non-V and it wasn't fully built .. He also has a FULLY built crx with d16y8 running 12s all motor I believe high 12s .. So im very confident in him .. And since were good pals him chargeing me to put the work in and everything is practically buying him lunch lol jus sourcig the parts is my main focuz I was able to source a ACT XTREME full face clutch for $325

Yea that's why USDM cars run like sh!t compared to jdm and other places lol .. Well my mechanic has a friend that he trusts .. He lives in puerto rico lol and that's the only guy he trusts ... shame he only comes to US once every 2 years lol .. And he's coming soon this year so im tryina get all my stuff together for him to set me up .. But funds are not being kind .. Lol . Trying to source good products for GREAT prices is hard lol .. But any cams that are reputable ? Currently running stock b16a cams .
 
150whp on an optimistic dyno might well be 130whp on a very realistic dyno. If you put your stock b16 on an optimistic dyno it might already give you 150whp. So it also depends on wether you want a realistic or optimistic dyno number.
 
Well of course I want a realistic dyno lol ...I guess it depends on the actual dyno itself are there ccertain dynos I should keep an eye out for when speaking to a tuner ? .. The optimistic dyno jussounds like a scam lol ..

Now, now. There are good and honest tuners in the States. There are also bad ones. This goes for all countries, especially the UK.

Get onto "rollers" at a shop that has a good reputation and professionally trained tuner.

It took me a few weeks of asking questions at the track as to who was tuning where...ended up going to a local shop named DSR, DynoSpot Racing. These folks are into high end sports car tuning. And all of the mechanics either drive BMW or Honda...lol go figure. They also compete in drag and road racing. I was sold. [M-Coupe yummy]
