Hello everyone. I'm from Alabama in the United States. I bought my EK hatch about a little over a year ago. I had to leave it untouched for about 10 months just to save up and have my EG sprayed. Now I bought the EK for $1500, but I think I bit off more than I can chew. This thing is just crawling with problems.

1. Abandoned title. Costed $200 and a three month wait just to have a clear title mailed back and be able to drive it on the road.

2. Beat to hell. I mean this car was neglected. The passenger side looks like the kid drifted into two telephone poles about 2 feet away from eachother. The kid got mad and took a wrench and hit or did some fast tapping right around the antenna cover. The car was rattle-canned black and he didn't even sand it before spraying it. I tried to save the paint with some 3000 grit sp and scotch pads but to no avail.

3. Shaved holes for side moldings  He didn't even do a good job. Just had someone put plates behind it, weld, smothered bondo over the holes and with no sanding, just spray painted it. I may have to get new doors and new fenders

4. More welding no no's. The engine bay is completley screwed. The kid just welded up holes and decided not to take a grinder to the beads which lead to rust. He even welded up the holes for the strut bar no!! I had to pull everything out just so I can grind down and get the bay painted.

Here are the pics so far. I will reorganize this thread along with things I have and have done to it already.

1500 for that! :wow:
hope you can get it sorted, needs alot of work...

yeh as said car looks in a very sorry state it was clearly owned by someone that got there spray painting degree from primary skl :p just keep up the good work m8 might not look nothing for a while but with some hard graft can be transformed :)

Thanks. Yeah I got burned but oh welll I'm just going to suck it up and have it finished. I will add the description now and use photobucket to host the pictures, I like it better with the pics blown up instead of attached at the bottom.

*First thing I bought for the car for inspiration was a set of 96-98 EK9 Tail lights

*Had a set of EK side skirts lying around in my garage that I was going to cut and install on my EG, so I went ahead and installed them. However, one night I went over some train tracks and lost the passenger side :(

*I sold some parts and was able to buy the 99-00 EK9 Tail lights so I could swap them out at times.

*I got a hit over a post on craigslist that I was looking for some HX rims. I traded the guy my 13 inch steelies with tires plus $130 cash for a set of HX rims with Kuhmo tires. I was really happy with the set, great condition. I'm going to spray them Championship White and have the "H" badge sprayed it an OEM Honda green, not sure yet.

*The car came some crappy ebay lowering springs. So I had a SPC camber kit that I bought from an old room mate for $10 :) I decided to use the kit on the EK. I installed the rears but am going to have to use an after market front set to install the front camber. I am going to go with Blox.

*Ordered the Stanley Amber Side markers, cut the fenders and installed, along with the wiring to be constantly on when the parking lights/ headlights were on.

*I did the Quad brake light setup on both sets. What I did was cut off the newer style two phase sockets and soldered in the old style two phase black Stanley sockets found on Preludes and EG Civics and then ran the activation wire to the new top socket.

*It over heated on my first time taking it out so I changed out the head gasket and then had to cut and solder a OBD1 plug for the IACV valve since there was an OBD1 intake manifold on the Y7 motor.

*The kid installed a cookie sheet as a battery plate and installed it right before the radiator. I took it all out, bought the OEM battery tray along with the OEM power, starter, and ground wires, installed it and had to wire in the CD player because the wiring was hacked up. There was a short in the dash wire for the memory wire, constant power so I just routed a new wire to the battery.

*No speakers what so ever. I had the front pair lying around. I installed the 6' speakers. I ordered a pair of pioneer 6x9's from ebay.

*There was no overflow tank so I bought an OEM one, cleaned it and installed along with the bracket that corresponds

*I had to reassemble the back seat area because the kid somehow undid the driver side back seat buckle harness. When I installed it I found out why, somehow the manufacture had the clip accidentally put on backwards, so the belt always had to be flipped just to buckle, so I took it back out and am about to buy a brand new one to install (Maybe there was a recall on more Civics????)

*It had no rear view mirror, no driver side a-pillar, no sun visors and clips, no oem shift knob. Bought all used OEM and replaced.

*The OEM headlights were taken apart and the housing was sprayed black. I rebaked them and took the amber reflectors out. I got a pair of OEM untouched ones for free so I am going to rebake them and take the refectors out. I like the chrome housing ones much better.

*I forgot to check the turn signals when I test drove the car, it had no turn signal sockets, luckily I had two of them sitting on my work bench so I put those in, just need to order some amber bulbs since the amber dome reflector was taken out.

*I got a D16Y8 vtec head for free. Everything needs to be replaced except the cam. So I scored a vtec solenoid on ebay. I may mini-me the Y7 motor with it, I may just sell the bare head and solenoid...dunno

*For Christmas my dad bought me the EK9 OEM thin side moldings, it was only the pieces for the doors so it is going to be hard for me to find the quarter panel and fender pieces seperate, but I'm looking.

*The lower single din was missing so I bought one from a EM1 and installed it.

Thank you. Things have been slow and I apologize to everyone. My EG keeps giving me problems and since I work on cars everyone keeps coming up to me to fix them. I've kept this car in mind though. I went to the junkyard today and picked up the plastic pieces that fit into the chassis for the side trim so I can use the clips as reference to recut into the bondo'd holes.

I will keep everyone posted on progress
