EG6 VTi dropping out of VTEC in 4th

Was driving my mates EG6 last week and it would hit VTEC and rev out no problem in 1st, 2nd & 3rd but after changing into 4th you could hear & feel it dropping out of VTEC :angry: After this it wouldn't hit VTEC again until the car was turned off for a second.

Any ideas what this might be? It's a pretty standard B16A2 with a Neo.
 
Try using a hamp shortie oil filter to raise to oil pressure, im guessing using cheap oil filters would drop the oil pressure (don't quote me on that) had the same problem on the b18c ek9 that I brought of Jordan 101, it used to drop out of vtec then back in then it went bang. Make sure it's not starving your engine with oil which will lead to early bearing wear and possible seizure.

What's your oil consumption like?
 
The filter shouldn't make a drastic amount of difference. If you're relying on it just to keep the pressure up for vtec then you do have a problem.

It's most likely the oil pump.
