As some of you know, I busted my outer CV joint the other day on my 9. Was the passenger side.

Anyways, I managed to buy a reconditioned driveshaft with new CV joints & boots from japperformanceparts.

I went about doing the work on my drive today, proved rather difficult with limited access under the car. I also found that the inner CV joint boot was buggered anyway.

When I came to pull the old driveshaft off, the boot came away from the inner CV so now I'm left with the CV still attached to the car but no shaft.

Any ideas what to use to get this off???

Old shaft and the new one. As you can see, inner CV still on the car

It should just slide off, When I did mine I just levered it off from the back of the joint with a big screwdriver, mine stayed in one piece so I could pull on it a bit too though.

Hit it with a copper hammer it will pop out.

I take mine out of the box and vice it. Hit the cup with a hammer downward, eventually it gives.
They don't like to be removed but it's possible.

I will try all of these methods if I must lol! Been hitting it but possibly not hard enough. Access is tough under the car, hard to get a decent swing. Might try levering it with a bar tomorrow first. Then if all else fails another way... Jackhammer?! Lol

This is why I take it out. Only 3 bolts then it slides out. Easy to place in a vice and smack it then.

Id advise the use of loctite on the intermediate shaft also as one on a old eg i got flew off after some cowboy converted it! Should give the cup a few smacks with a hammer and it ahould come out ive never had any major troubles doung it in place

Cheers for advice! Most annoying part is, this is only for a month maximum as I'm swapping in about a month... So EP3/DC5 shafts going in anyway. Trust it to happen now :angry2:

No need to remove whole shaft. If you can't get enough leverage then use pry bar and hammer. Pops out without much fuss.

Taking the shaft's out gets easier with practice hammer & prybar have never let me down car been on stands
