Hi, just wondering, because break reservoir says 'use only DOT3 or DOT4 Fluid' is it safe to use DOT 5.1, after completely bleeding the old fluid. And is there any advantage to doing so, or just stick with what it says on the lid?

If you track lots or Motorsport, using big brakes with very regular fluid changes then you can use 5.1, but a super DOT4 is plenty for fast road and trackdays, Silkolene Pro-Race 2000 for example.

Honda recommends DOT4 for type R's

As Haitch said, if your killin your upgraded brakes eg. 6 pots etc then yeah 5.1

5.1 is fully compatible. If you can get it for the same price as your high quality DOT4 fluid, then go for it.

Otherwise, I don't think you'll realize the benefits of it over a good DOT4. The DOT4 fluid would have to be the weak link in the brake-overheating chain.

the motul rbf 600 and castrol srf have alot higher boiling points then the ap racing dot 5.1, but with the boiling point it has it's not a bad price

agreed, we have used this fluid on track cars at castle combe uk which is quite hard on brakes and also at the nurburgring and it has exceeded our expectations and requirements,

nice hard pedal all day long,, don`t see the need for anything more, :drive::drive::drive:
