Mods please feel free to move this thread to the correct section as I don't know where to post this.

My friend bought a DB reader from Maplins, this one: Mini Sound Level Meter : Enviroment Testers : Maplin it's Frequency weighting is C instead of A.

When we did a sound test on his EP2 with a Buddyclub pro spec 3 with the bung in it read 115 db, when I tested it on my ek9 with a Mugen Twinloop it reads 107 db. Both were done when it was warmed up. Does anyone know what those figures will show if the frequency weighting is A instead?

I know that if my Twinloop did a 107db then I wouldn't of been allowed on at Brands. The tester said it sounded quiet compared to the other cars and passed it.

I have googled about and seen graphs where the C weighting starts higher than the A weighting. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Thanks
Andy

Are you testing it at .5 and 1 meter as that is how they do it on trackdays. When I go for SVA they test at .5m and 45 deg angle.

Yes, I did this. I am not sure if dbc reads higher than dba or not. I know that dba is most commonly used and its for low sound levels whereas dbc is for higher sound levels. I don't think that I will have any problems on any track but just wondering if the measurement from dbc is a big difference to dba.

Need a metre which reads in an A weighting. As that's what they tend to use when at trackdays.
Unless specified other wise.

C weight is different, which is what your mates metre reads in.

I thought so. Does anyone know if you can convert it or something?
