I have been asked to post info on my turbo setup. I hope some of you will find this helpful. My intent with this car is to be a road racing car. I have been making this a drag car, 6 months in my project i decide i want to road race.. That decision came from a trip to VIR, the ITR expo 8, in my co-workers s2000. I since then have been devoting everything to make it a track car, instead of a drag car.

The car was running on a stock b16 with head studs only, gt35r, stock intake and 450cc injectors running 8 psi. I turned the boost to 15 psi was running fine and one day i notice smoke from the valve cover, knew i had a busted ring lang or something. So i tore it apart, found #3 to be broken :(

I then proceded to buy.

edelbrock intake manifold
crower rods
wiseco pistons
GE lsvtec kit
70mm tb
gsr cams
acl bearings
FRESH crank(less than 10k miles!!)
engine seal kit
new timing belt
new itr oil and water pumps

Before i even started this build, i knew i wanted it to be a 1.8 or bigger. With no luck of finding a good gsr block, i bought this for 50 bucks.

This is my first motor i built, i got it built over the next 4 or 5 days:

And i did some research on boosting hondas, and i ended up buying a block breather kit,

Breather Tank Kit Z10 Motorsports

it plugs into the back of the block for better crank case ventialation. You can see my two tubes coming off the back aroudn to the tranny side, the tranny is a LSD J1. The tranny also has a act flywheel, act HD clutch, and a 6 puck spring hub disc.

From this point on, the car sat for a long time, dont ask why.. it just did :(. I Could not get it started, chagned EVERYthing from ignition to starter. I eventually found out that i didnt have a ground on the motor, the one on the valve cover was in the wrong spot. Corrected it and fired right up. Let the motor warm up and then i changed the oil.

I was still running a side mount at that time. I invested in a better intercooler for my setup, a procharger Ic with Vibrant piping and a Turbonetics Raptor BOV.

ok back on topic.

The car is now running good, changed oil a couple times, got good comrpession all around.. YES i think to my self. first motor build gone right. I then went to work late one night to find out how it does on the dyno.

low boost 302, STILL on obd0, yes a chipped pr3 tuned on a afc.

I then converted it to obd1, with my custom distrubitor harness, and a JDM **** obd1 conversion harness. Everything was new, put 500 miles on it and sold it for a motec.

good ****, should be very very very fun!! the only advice i have is swap the 35r for a GT 3076R or 3071R. i personally think the 35r is a little too big for RR. i would get the 3076R thats what i have on my 1.6 and mid turn i just give it a little more gas and i can build boost easily and modulation is very very easy. contgrats man :nice:

you would be quite suprised how fast this spools, its a .63 back side, so it is limiting the turbos max power, but it spools before 5k. You would know on a road course, its mostling above 5 k, whe your revving to 9.

depends on the road course but yeah, its all up to you and your driving style :nice: even the HKS evo with its 2.3 liter engine uses a variation of the 30R, and with the 30r you could shift earlier taking a bit of stress of the engine and trans cause your power would come on so much sooner, hell most people roadrace with a GT28rs, but like i said its all up to you, im sure it will be fun either way :drive:
