Right, so i just put a computer together and it seems that there is a problem with the power switch. I checked all the wires and cables, everything seems to be fine. The SB_Power LED is on the motherboard but does not power on.

Heres the specs.
ASUS P5WD2 Premium motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
Cooler master 600w SilentPro PS
1 x LG Blue Ray Disc \DVD\CD Rewritable Combo
1 x Seagate Sata 1TB HDD
4 x 2gig DDR2 Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4650 VGA

The case im using ive had laying around for years so i dont know the name of it. Its some biohazard case. Help :please:.

check the switch cable on the case that connects to the motherboard?
either that or the PSU needs replaceing, how old is it??

check the PSU, do this by getting a paper clip, opening it up, on the 24pin block that goes from your PSU to your motherboard locate the green wire, short it over with any one of the black wires on the block, If the PSU powers on then its a board fault. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. i just got the PSU on friday. I took it all apart and starting over testing each component. It seems like it might be the PSU tho, when i hit the power button and the LED seemed to light up for a quick second then nothing.

Check the motherboard front panel connectors. Find the 2 pins that should be labeled PWR or something. Touch both pins with a piece of metal like a paper clip or something and see if that powers it on (used to do this to power on a computer with no case). Also, just make sure you have all the front panel connectors plugged into the correct spots on the motherboard. I've put them on incorrectly in the past. If it doesn't power on then I would check the power supply. The 12v rail could be faulty and too weak give it the juice.

In case of PSU failure, might I suggest you buy a Corsair next time. Some of the best PSU's money can buy. I've got a Corsair TX650W and it's been great. That or PC Power and Cooling. They're good too.

Thanks techy, ill try that in a minute. Just hooking up the psu now.

Ok, so the PSU powers on, but the cpu fan seems to want to power on but it doesnt...

Ok, then I would say faulty motherboard BUT, if you have another PSU to test, I'd do that first.

I dont have another PSU to test. If the motherboard was faulty wouldnt the SB_Power LED on it not light up?

Yes or no. Depends on where the fault is. But try the other PSU first. If you get the same result then your Mobo is bad.

Alright, heres some extra info. I connected the VGA card which has 2 dvi-i and a S-Video connections. I used the dvi-i to vga adapter and nothing happend. Both monitors that i tried gave me blank screens. Also both the mouse and keyboard are not being detected either. So im leaning towards the motherboard being bad. Sounds like it doesnt it? Ill try the PSU thats on my current rig and see if i get any results.

edit: Also the motherboard has been sitting in the box for some years, dont really know if that has any effect what so ever.

Try powering it on with just 1 stick of RAM in.

I tried powering it with just 2. I guess i can try it with just one.

Not yet. Didnt have time yesterday to do anything with it. Im going to work on it tomorrow morning. I have to go to work now.

Finally got it to work. Damn Frys Electronics took forever to send me the new motherboard. I just got it today and im installing windows 7 ultimate as i type. Lets see how that works out.

Yup. Thing turned right on when i put everything on the new motherboard. Buuut, another thing i had over looked was that the cpu was not compatible with that motherboard. Haha.

On a side note, I dont really see a big difference from vista to windows 7. I use to stay on 2000 pro and xp pro. 95 sucked, 98 was ehh, and ME was horrible.
