Having had my mfactory close ratio gearset in my ek9 for a good couple of months now it is awesome!!! :) really transforms th car and makes it even better! BUT the whine you get off th gears is pretty annoying on longer journeys.

What i want to know is there anyway to eliminate th whine or dampen it down? Like with a different gear oil, ? I use Torco MTF at th moment as recommended by mfactory as i hav their HLHS bearings fitted in my box too along with a full oem fresh rebuild and 4.4FD. Absolutly awesome gearbox i hav now! :)

Work was done by automek in east kilbride. Top job!!! ;)

ive an ats gear kit with a mfactory 4.7 fd in my car. nothing can really be done to get rid of the whine to be honest. I just turn the radio up a bit more :) out of interest what does yours rev at at 100km?

yours will go well with th 4.7 mate! ;) i had a 4.9fd in before but decided to go back as it wld hav been way too short!

Oh cant remember off th top of my head sorry. Will let you know once i get back out in th car. Whats yours?

You enjoying th gearset? You had a play with a stock ek9 or teg and notice any real difference?

Aw well tunes up!! Lol

no real way to reduce the whine just learn to love it :drive:

aw well cheers anyway. Dnt get me wrong th whine is cool but on spirited drives its pretty insane! Lol you can sort of adjust your foot on th pedal so its really quiet but its tough.

my top speed is approx 125 mph if I remember correctly. yeah i love it it does get a bit tedious on a long journey though. heres mine at 120km in 5th http://s1305.photobucket.com/user/weetabixhead/media/20130925_140356_zps627e9b24.jpg.html]

You know why it whines right?
The angle of the helix is about half that of standard. The teeth effectively come into contact in closer to one go rather than twist into contact.

Actually this design of gear will be weaker than standard....except they are made in a much stronger manufacturing method. What will occur is a reduced end load on the gearbox casing however, so for the same power you have less chance of issues there, and effectively the total strength is improved.

Count yourself lucky its not fully straight cut!
