Hi Guys/Girls,

Just a quick question if any of you have had previous experience of cleaning up an exhaust?

Want to remove all the grime/tar/dirt etc and give it a polish up.

Any product suggestions?
And best material to apply them with?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

I used a brill pad and t cut to bring mine up. Also a bit of wet and dry sandpaper. Didn't want to be spending money on metal polish and all that craic just :) although I'm sure it worth it

Autosol metal polish is the best stuff! halfords do it for a 10er i think!! works great!

I was told oven cleaner did the trick?! Could be wrong as I've never tried it! What do you think?

No need for tar remover/ sand paper or any other products... both of these exhuast had black tar spots and were pretty tatty TBH spent an hour on the feels and about the same on the tanabe.. Look at the feels one i even cleaned the inside of the tip which was caked with soot and look at it !!!!

P.S the tanabe system when i sold it earlier this year was about 4/5 years old. you wouldn't know it from the pictures..

Autosol is all you need !!!!! look at the finishs i got from ONLY using autosol metal polish.

Feel's Honda twincam !!! if you look at the actual Pipe from the backbox on the feels exhuast you can see what the metal was like before i started cleaning... :wow:

Good job on the exhaust bud, I spent ages doing my fuji powergetter and 5zigen pro racer, final result is well worth the effort though.

How did you cut/polish into the exhaut pipe itself mate?

+ on the autosol that's all you'll ever need.

Autosol and newspaper :)

Iv never herd of using newspaper dude might have to try that! Tho the meguiars metal polish is slot better than autosol I found anyway! Mates exhaust was caked black autosol would move it but the other stuff took it off no problem

another thing, to try find somebody who welds stainless they use a paint on sort of acid gell to remove the stains/burns after welding stainless its amazing paint it on your exhaust walk away come back rinse it off job done all the browness and tarnish comes off its unreal nasty stuff though.

Autosol is the best! i got through loads polishing the chrome on my mini, its really good and gets rid of small bits of rust too, really good stuff and leaves a nice shine too

how much would you need to do an exhaust and header? it comes in little tubes???

When using autosol you dont need to use much of it just make sure you work it in

Autosol gets my vote too. Im halfway through cleaning my buddyclub system. As previously said, just make sure you work it in properly.
