Do you have to replace the rear hatch on a 1996-2000 US spec Civic DX hatchback in order to install a JDM 1998-2000 Civic Type R rear spoiler? Also can the CTR side skirts and front/rear bumper easily be installed on the US model hatchback?

no you have to remove the us to put on the jdm one.

also jdm side skirts = usdm side skirts and pretty much the same with the bumpe....unless its the bumper with the molding on it.

i beleive hes asking if he needs to replace the entire hatch just to use a ek9 spoiler, if so the answer is NO, you just remove your factory spoiler and install the ek9 spoiler. and as as tated there is no point to change bumpers unless you are trying to go from 96 style to 99 style, in that case search around we just covered that in another thread. good luck.

That's the beauty of EK9 parts when you want them on you USDM hatch's.:D

And keep in mind that EK9 rear spoiler is not just there for the sake of beauty but its an important component for the aerodynamics(its effects are not the same as an F1 car though :D). I know some who have put this just for good looking on their hatchs, at 180 degrees angle to the car upper surface, hence linear air flow(bad air flow in that case). Don't remember the exact correct angle now, but these small details that are not taken into consideration can affect the performance of a lightweight car like EK9 at high speeds!!

i didn't knew this :wow:

You can verify this by checking yours to see that the angle is a bit less than 180 degrees. The reason for which they point a bit upwards is for better downforce :nice: The more the car it accelerates the more air density(mass). So, while the air passes paraller just above the car, it hits the spoiler, smoothly goes upwards and pushes the car downwards(I repeat the car is not an F1 car, so the effect is small :( ) and it produces downforce  All EK9s rear spoilers put by the factory have the same angle to produce the same amount of downforce. Note a very small angle(much below 180 degrees has catastrophic effects because the air will be blocked instead..... and the outcome will be similar to :angry2:

^^^i heard of that, i was planning to get the kit to be able to angle it differently once i start taking my car to some local events here. I dont know how dramatically it'll imporove the car- but its always worth a shot. Heres pics of the lil bracket type deals that let you change the angle of the ctr spoiler.

looks pretty good too.

dosent ALEX sell those brackets? i remember reading about it a loooooong time ago...

yea I recently found out what those arms actually are and yes blinx9900 is right it's an ALEX spoiler. You can buy the cf spoiler which comes with the arms from a certain website I forgot what it is now. I think it also cost around mid 200 for the setup which really isn't bad.

wait 200 for the spoiler and the new brackets? I thought the setup just consisted of putting these adjustable brackets between the spoiler peice and the peice that lays on the glass. but yeah i heard they were "alex brackets" or something.

thats actually a really good deal. i know the brackets were sold seperately somewhere. some guy on honda-tech even fabricated a set for himself and i think he started selling them- i think i even pm'd him...lol i have such a bad memory.
