My gearbox is pretty clean in all the gears apart from second which can be a bit stubborn from cold, especially at lower speeds. I am thinking of either buying a younger clean box or rebuilding the one I have....

Any thoughts? Bare in mind money is an issue : )

I would prob just give the oil a change if its not been done recently, could also give u a good idea of what mite be goin on in there. Being the chepest option I would do this then maybe save some dollar if things start to get worse.

If u was to buy a second hand box u never really know what your buying unless its recon'd but then I would prob just recon your original box. How ever this can be very expensive!

As said above change the oil and go from there. Landrover mtf is meant to be better for slightly worn boxes.

Changed the gearbox oil with MTF3 about a month ago, feels alot better but then comes back now and then to haunt me :)) any other things I should check?

Not any point buying another gearbox as it could be even worse than the one you already have.

If it does bother you alot then I'd get the gearbox rebuilt

possibly needs replacing and has killed your box slightly, but id reccomend removing your box and taking it to a reputable garage like performance autoworks or mardi gras, let them crack open the box and get a quote to fix it

am going to get mine rebuilt the lad i got it swor to me that there was nowt wrong with it. so i fitted it to find that 2nd to 3rd has seen better days ie crunch crunch. like whats been said above if it hasnt been refurbed then its probz duff.

Looking to rebuild my gearbox now ive saved a bit of money, can anyone point in the right direction for a kit to buy?

^ yup go see them and just get some new bit and better bits if the rest of your box is all good
