Cannot select reverse gear :/

So, was driving along and ended up needing to reverse to turn around. so i pull up and attempted to put it in reverse and it just would have it. I thought i had at one point but just made a crushing sound noise. I ended up pushing it back to go forward and it went in all the other gears fine as it should. I have a feeling its the selector in which case would it be better to just buy a new gearbox for it? Im no expert on these kind of things so any help would be great.

fifth gear and the reverse gear use the sam selector fork mate i know this as i bought a busted s80 box on the terms of broken and turned out to be this.

Isnt this just a honda problem? I know loads of people that have to try 2 or 3 times to get into reverse sometimes, yet all the other gears are fine.

nope im the same mate hahaa must be a honda thing i was told by the gearbox builder of mine that the 5th and reverse hub isnt the best of designs lol. also i have to lift the clutch up and the back down then try reverse again haha.

This is the same on all these gear boxes. If it doesn't go straight in first time then just lift the clutch and press again and should drop in fine.

Mine does this too, can be embarrassing during a 3 point turn when you can't select reverse but I guess we just learn to live with it

Ah thanks for the comments guys! Yeah i was doing a 3 point turn in some lanes which scared the hell out of me in case of a car coming :L

Ill give it a try dunk/chris right away
