Hi Guys,

as I am the first UK owner of my EK9 I have no history of when the cambelt was changed... it's done around 70000 miles so i'm a bit confused as to wether it needs doing. Found this:

Don't spose that means it was changed at 100619Km? lol

What else would you guys recommend getting done? Honda quoted me £420 for major service plus cambelt change... :nerv:

Alright mate i would change your cambelt if i was you. I changed mine at 52000 and the belt did not look good at all. It is worth spending the money on, if it goes the car's a right off.

since i have had my car imported i have had the following changed, i would reccomend having it all done too, all of the things would fall into a major service i would think anyway, runs sweet :D

cambelt/tensioner/tensioner spring
valve clearances set
water pump
coolant
rotor arm
dizzy cap
fuel filter
oil filter
oil
gearbox oil
bled brakes
bled clutch and greased slave cylinder/gearbox fork joint (prevents the usual clutch creak at the end of the pedal travel)

I wouldn't dare not to take it for a complete service no matter what papers say. There is no logic behind buying a used racing car for 5000+ pounds and risk everything for a couple of hundreds of pounds! :drive:

Yep, forget what the papers say and service it as regular as you can afford to. I got the cambelt done after importing, oil is changed every 4k etc. Fuel filter ready to be changed too.

Thanks guys, at this rate it's going to have to be after christmas. Hopefully it will be ok until then with all my christmas travelling. Also may get a trusted mechanic to do it as £420 for that seems a bit steep to me. So just to check the main things to get done are:

Oil Change
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
Gear Box Oil
Cambelt

Anything i've missed thats important or worth doing at the same time as something else?

All these checks / changes sound like a complete service... tho make sure u use the OEM stuff.. (e.g gear box - MTF, OEM OIL/Fuel Filter frm Honda etc...)

:nice:

Lol, k I give in. It's off to Honda tomorrow to get everything done.
Really don't want her exploding on me over the Christmas period.

Just had a Japaneses friend of mine translate this:

According to him it means this:

Timing Belt Exchange (Change) NIPPAN
Date Change Occurred 2006 August 24
Meter Reading 100169 kilometres

So basically it was changed 1 year and 4 months ago. Is it really worth changing it when it was only done a year ago?

I would just so you have the state of mind that YOU KNOW its been changed. When i first got my ej, it was only at 50k miles, but i automatically went for a timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, oil change, transmission fluid change, radiator drain and fill JUST to know that its 100% just to have that state of mind is worth it.

i doubt u need to if it has been changed so recently.. however if u feel better doing it go ahead for piece of mind :ek9:

I would change it mate, how do you know it's defo been done? ,it could have just had that sticker put on for effect !simple answer is £40 for a o.e honda belt and labour from a mechanic say £100 labour ,£140 for the belt and labour or £1500 for a second hand ek9 engine if the belt snaped and it goe's bang ,do it for piece of mind mate :nice:
