hi all

i'm in the process of building a b20 vtec and after the head came back from the engineering shop i'm having difficulty with the valve clearances.
the head had damage to cyl #4, new valves were installed, after this was done i cannot get any clearance on cyl #1, the head was sent in minus the cams. at first i could not get clearance on the exh valves on cyl1, then i took the head back and they managed to get a clearance, then i couldn't get clearance on the intake side, they managed yet again to get clearance, but now the rockerarm pushes slightly on the valve retainer before actually touching the valve stem...:((
is it possible that they have cut the valveseats too deep?

what pistons were used? maybe they did not have correct vtec valve reliefs. Time to bust out the old dremel and grind down lightly.

i checked the clearances while the head was off, the pistons in question are wiseco 10.9:1 pistons on eagle H-beam's, as far as i know their valve reliefs are big enough

ive always had problems with the b20, what cams are you running and i would also break out the dremal anyways.... make sure u clay it when all is said and done just to be sure.... cams are probably your issue. forgot to ask, b16 head or gsr?

i took the head back to the shop now and explained exactly what i wanted done, it's a b16a head with crower 63401's, it's almost the same profile as the ctr. I'll most def clay the motor once the head is back, i doubt that i'll have p2v problems, i also had the combustion chambers polished just for that extra piece of mind....

if all goes to plan the motor will be in by friday and on the dyno by saturday

got the head back today i'm atlast satisfied with the workmanship.
head has been mounted and the motor is in, should fit sideshafts and electrical connectors tomorrow... :nerv:

motor started with the first swing, took her out for her first 8000rpm run now and she feels slightly stronger than my b18, but i guess the power will come out on the rollers....

the motor sound very smooth and oil pressure on idle is at 2.5bar, then gradually climbs to 6bar at 5k rpm

the throttles make some amazing noises once vtec engages:naughty:

some pics of the build
