Got a quick question about wiring when doing this swap...

My car is OBD2b, theres a B18c conversion for sale with the OBD2a vtec loom from ek4/9, can I use this loom in my OBD2b car? I'm guessing I'll need to swap interior loom for OBD2a too in order to do this (conversion comes with OBD2a ITR ECU)?
I know theres the option of just buying a facelift vtec loom from ek4/9 and buying a OBD2b-2a conversion harness too. But I wanted to see if it was possible/worthwhile to consider going completely OBD2a.

Any advice appreciated.

You'll need a obd2a engine loom then a 2b to 2a conversion harness!

Thats your easiest/cheapest option

Assuming you mean OBD2b engine loom? Aren't the plugs different on for example the dizzy between OBD2a and 2b?

...your thinking obd2 vs obd1, these have plug shape changes in the alt and dizzy.

Cheers for the info. guys

Looks like i'll go for an OBD2b loom and buy a conversion harness for the ECU

thread jack... im planning to do this with my EK4 soon as well although i dont know what the differences are between my loom and its loom for the motor?

when i put a D15B into my old ballade (d51z4) i remember plug being different for the injectors, distributor and one or two other things.. all we did was cut the plugs off the old loom and put them on the loom being used with wire colours matching. we got the car running/idling, but it would cut out, and if one tried to rev and would do the same(then the car went in for standalone and sorted the prob out). i dont know if this was because of the OBD2/1/a/b stuff, but will it be the same story when i do the b18cR swap?

The only thing of note I remember from mine is that on the B16A2 the IAT is on the air intake ducting but on the B18C6 it is on the intake manifold. Not sure if it would have mattered if I just left as it was, but I cut and soldered the wires on my loom to use the B18's IAT and just left the B16's IAT sitting in the duct not connected to anything.

Other than that I just used JDM P73 ECU and an SVE OBD2a to OBD2b conversion harness.

so you wouldnt have been able to do it without the harness converter? if the b16a6 loom could be modified with the b18c plugs etc(like i did on my old ballade) it wouldnt work?

Sorry, I didn't think then. My car is a 2000 so it's OBD2b, I think the 96-98 EK4s are OBD2a (same as the teg).
If your car is a prefacelift then I think you could just plug a P73 straight in (you might not even have the bother with the IAT bit, I don't know). But if your EK4 is a facelift you can either just run it with your standard ECU (but you won't really be getting the best from the engine) or use a P73 from a teg and get a conversion harness to plug it in. Technically you could re-wire the harness but it looks like a lot of work.

Yeah I just droped in a b18c into my 00ek, I had to get a engine harness from a em1 lengthen the IAT wire and buy the adaptor harness. I just shut it down with no codes.

sweet mines a 97 prefacelift ek4 so hopefully itll be plug and play... literally! lol.

my bad for jacking the thread.

/thread jack.
