Hi lads, I've been toying with the idea of a engine conversion just wanted to know the pro's and con's with the two different engines? I know the h22 is more powerful but what about realiablilty? Also how hard is the h22 to fit? I've done 2 engine conversions on other cars so I'm pretty handy with the tools, just didn't know if it was a more difficult swap? Thanks guys
Martin :)

You will need an H2B kit to fit an H22 to a B series gearbox, otherwise you'll need custom axles and some modifications to accept a cable shifter. They can make great power though, and are a better base if that is something you would build on in future. If not the B series is far more straightfoward.

Thanks kozy!, are you able to tell me of that's involved with the h22 conversion please? Would be greatly appreciated!! Thankyou
Martin

I din't know the details unfortunately, you'll be best off tracking someone who has done the conversion themselves. There's one underway on the ITR forum at the moment.

I would go with the B18C, my mate did a H2B and had to do a bit of work to the kit to get it to fit (and he's and engineer and has access to Cnc...)

H22 isnt the performer revver though.much more weight in the front axle too.still it is way cheaper

Thanks for all the replies! I was just gathering info so I can decide what engine to stick in, money isn't a massive issue, it'll be done over a decent amont of time and it'll be done properly, so you lot are suggesting the b18 would be the best bet? Thanks
Martin

I would go for the H22 personally, much more potential there, up to 190lbft and 280bhp, vs 160lbft and 250bhp out of the B18. It can still be made to handle 8500rpm too so hardly a low speed torque monster.

The extra weight is an issue though, as is getting it to fit.

And add to cons its a tall engine which meaning you can't go low too much and a jdm h22 is roughly about 210 bhp so try source one of them and with h2b its pretty straight forward and the only problems you will face is the wiring as you need to make modify the engine loom

Qsd make h2b kits

Im going h2b next year h22a7 atr with s80 4.7 fd

Can I have the link for the h22 kits please? Also how much is a h22? Is there a guide I can read through or follow? Thankyou all kindly!
Martin

I have h22 conversion done into an eg.. Ran a 13.45 yesterday on my first time out racing it and stretched one of my gear cables so stopped racing then.. I'm going h2b now over Xmas.. My stock block h22 yesterday was doing better times than a fully built b18 running itb's.. Don't know where people get this whole weight thing from??? My eg weighs 960kg with h22 lump..

For the price of doing a b18, you have it in a h22 half the price as the k20, but the h22 still matches the k20 on power just the k has a 6th gear,

Theres a bloke on CL that charges £300 to do a h2b instead of buying a h2b kit he uses a b series mount, a h22 drivers side mount, custom skat plate and is far more cheaper than the kit.

Hi Guys

Built a H2b dc2 last year, used the evo kit (****) had to modify the mounts etc.
To get 190ftlbs and 280bhp you would need to spend silly money the k would probably be cheaper if you wanted that sort of power NA,
The weight difference is not a problem with the blance shafts removed
(my dc2 is on stock suspension, I went on DV8 stag do to the ring(Had a great time) and put in a time of 9min 12sec did not notice the front pushing on in the corners)
4.7 Fd is to short can drive every where in 5th,
You will need to modify the sump or buy the qsd one.
If you need any help Pm me.

Cheers
Matt
