Hi guys,

Never seems to be straight forward when it comes to me and my EK9 relationship. So for a few weeks now my idle has been very low during cold start, sometimes cuts out. I did my research and found that it was most likely my IACV, I wanted to take mine apart and clean it but was told that its not worth doing that and to just get a new one.

Orderd a second hand one from R1 Motion (excellent service from them) and had it fitted yestereday. The low idle issue is now gone, but the car now idles between 1100 and 1500 RPM, the revs are slowly moving around whilst im stationary (idle hunt I believe this is called?).

I drove home though thinking it was just a temporary thing, see how it runs at full temp but nothing has changed. The box comtaining my old IAVC, I notice there is the head of a nut in the box, I suspect one of the two securing nuts has broken but didnt spot this at the time as I left the garage (they didnt mention issues during fitting). So anyways my point, I suspect that there is an air leak causing the idle to not be right, but would I potentially be looking at anything else here?

Before my low idle issues started the car ran extremely well, no idle hunt for example, started every time. Its worth noting that my old IAVC looks good, the issue clearly was the fact it was gunked up, I should of taken it off, cleaned it and refitted!

Thanks in advance,
Rush

i clean my iacv every 3 months always helps :)

Now i know how bad they get, this is a good idea. Bit of a pain to get off I find, you use an angled or flexible spanner? That said though this unit I fitted is in much better condition than my old one, I will clean my old one and give it a go see if that helps.

i use a chestnut to remove the nuts and then pliers to remove the straps from the water hoses , i will even do it again today cz there is some dirt i got a little bit low idle all these come from the air filters , if u use a good one u wont have problem for long time

I would bet that there is an air leak with your symptom.

Try get a torch in there and spray some wd40 or similar around the IACV and watch for bubbles. How I found an IM leak on my old d series.

Check that the figure of 8 gasket is in good condition too if you have it off again, maybe run a finger of oil around it before putting it back on.
