B16A2 Turbo - Choosing Parts

Have a look at some kits first and see what they cost, alternatively like you say piece one together yourself, ebay turns up some decent second hand parts now and again so have a little look on there maybe. Google civic turbo, I'm sure it will come up with something good. All I can say is do a little research before you go diving in head first

im trying to but when you dont know what stuff is good and whats not worth looking at it's hard lol i could do with somone pointing me in the right direction...

i've found a good kit autoworks street kit but you need to buy ecu and fuel pump and other stuff taking it over the budget ... i dont know wether to buy it then save up for propper S300 and wait to get it all on the car insted of buying somthing cheaper :S

Building something is only half of the jig saw puzzle, dont skimp on tuning or attempt to drive it un-tuned, it will only cost you more in the long run, If it were me I would go for the hondata s200/s300, proven time and time again to be a good system.

yeh but hope it wouldnt kill the engine

Could i run a ECU mapped for B16b on a B16A2 without blowing it ? seen as my car has ITR top end ? or would it need remapping for my setup? could do with knowing .... lol

Spend loads of money building a motor only to go and drive it run it lean and melt it down, whats the point in messing about? Those ecu's you mention none will know what boost looks like. Who ever filled your head with the above bs needs shooting. Do some proper research

-->COMPLETE How-To:: Turbocharge Your Honda // Rep-ing Hypnotik Speed - Honda-Tech

as people have said dont buy cheap on the exhaust mani, turbo, wastegate (if you get external) and mapping is the key.

I have spent around £2300 so far, piecing together a kit, some parts are 2nd hand.

Fullrace ramhorn manifold
Fullrace Backdoor IC
FullRace IC Piping
Tial BOV
Turbosmart 48 progate
Precision 6031 .82 a/r turbo
1200cc RC injectors.
Custom downpie and screamer pipe.

I already semi rebult my engine with -

New OEM headgasket
ARP headstuds
Compete rebuilt and PnP ITR Head, cams, valvetrain.
skunk2 intake manifold
68mm T/B

going to buy a p30 and a s300 for it looks like im going to have to piece it together

hello mate,

the tune is probably the most important thing in the list of stuff to get, the s300's are one of the best. if you are worried about driving it to the tuners then disconect the boost pipe to the throttle body then your car will drive like a n/a car.

there are a few things often over looked and that can result in serious failure. here is a few things i have learnt over the years of playing with b series engines,

SPARK PLUGS, i would recomend stepping down the heat range from 6 to 7 or maybe even 8, and make sure they are set at the correct gap for turbo charging, i have seen the hotter plugs melt before.

CATCH TANK, remember your engine will no longer create a vacum effct instead of sucking the oil vapours from your block and cylinder head it will pressurize it from the turbo

UPRATED IGNITION, if the spark isnt powerful enough it will missfire the minute you hit boost

INJECTORS, injector choice is very important, your injectors rely on fuel pressure aswell, your fuel pressure when under boost goes up with 1 for 1 on the PSI created by the turbo, for example static fuel pressure is 43psi and 10 psi of boost your fuel pressure will be 53psi, some injectors have a maximum pressure they can operate at, for example some injectors can only max out at 60psi.

these are just things i have learnt over the years with my own car and doing lots of reading up.

also treadstone performance does a lovely turbo kit for around £1600 delivered

hope this helps you out a bit

This is about the worst thing you could do for the turbo. It results in the turbine/compressor wheels spinning far in excess of what they where designed to operate at. This is a sure fire way to hammer the turbo

what i thaught.

im thinking about building the block though first what would stage 2 cams be like on turbo ?

What is stage two? Im not being a cnut but one tuners version could be totally diffrent from anothers. Itr/ ctr cams would be more than enough for the application, hell people have made 700whp plus on these cams. You could make the power you need on stock stuff.

i was really thinking about building the engine i dont want half done job i'd rather go low comp. and stage 2 crower cams with retainers etc just so i can rev it to 9k

good luck whith the build... hope it goes well for i'm also building a b16a2 turbo ( aiming for about 320-340 bhp )... whith a complete engien rebuild whith it. ( have a extra engien on the table that i'm just gona put i when it is rdy )

all the best of luck and hope you get what your aiming for

i meant drive it there nice and easy, not like your taking part in a race.

and surely the exhaust gases wont be traveling as fast therefore wont spool the turbo up that fast, i maybe wrong

and there will be not boost to open the wastegate so as said the turbo will over speed and go bang

well i will just have to get a decent base map.

still looking into this not sure wether the b16a2 is worth the fuss

Even if you was to drive the car around carefully ? Sorry but i can't see it been a problem unless the guy drives the car hard. I've had a boost pipe come off on mine before and i've drove it around for a week with no problems. Its certainly something i wouldnt recommend to someone, but i still can't see it causing a turbo to fail unless he was driving it around at full throttle. I just can't see the gas flow been enough to over spin the turbo at light throttle/load.
