Recently my car has started to idle quite high then drop in rpm then go back up again. Any ideas? The engine management light isn't on or anything, any help appreciated :thanks:

im just thinking of what I had on a fiesta I owned for a while in the end I replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs put injector cleaner through it and just cleaned the valve. one of those fixed the problem lol

However there will be people on here that will have a better idea im sure they will tell you

mine did this after an inlet manifold change. not done any work have u ? its all about the air pipes from the block to the inlet manifold.

yup could be your iacv which is bolted with 2 12mm bolts on the back of the intake.

also check to see if your pcv valve aint blocked had a similar problem on my crx delsol

Take it off and clean it with carb cleaner, amazing how much black gunk runs out. Worth a try before replacing the iacv.

eskay is right, there are 2 pipes that i fitted the wrong way round and we couldnt figure it out atall! if u are still stuck speak to jimbo on here, he was the one that knew what to do exactly. if it ran fine before your iacv valve is unlikely to be broken just 2 pipes fitted in the wrong configuration :)

if not that, the one way valve in your breather system could not be fitted. get yourself along side another bseries engine and compare if u are stuck :)

that will fix it,

to be honest a dirty intake will reduce power not encourage rough idle.

hope this helps

Clean the idle control valve. Did mine a few weeks ago and it worked wonders.
There's a how to thread on here somewhere if you are stuck.

definately sounds like a vacuum leak of some sort, as the guys said above check the pipes and give it a clean out.

when the rpm go's up and down is it quick or slow???

did you re-use the old intake manifold gasket???

also the iacv and the purge valve both have the same shape electrical connectors, if you mix them up it gives you the same irratic idle, just remembered if you mix them connectors up it will give you a check code so ignore the last

i know this is always good and all, but the fact he got this after changing a inlet mani...i really doubt its idle control

Got it sorted :nice:..cleaned the sensor out at the back of the inlet mani and took it a drive, still not right. Removed fuel rail and injectors and replaced injector seals and now it's running a dream. Was slightly odd but it's going great now. Cheers for the input
