So been reading up about this and I know plenty people on here have done it and I'm sure there's a lot of people on here with the best knowledge.
My question is how reliable is the B16a out of an Ek4 SiR when you turbo it? Completely stock no internal stuff done just a turbo kit put on and of course a proper tune? What kind of power can it handle safely that won't blow up a few days, weeks after install? I know of course if I do all internal mods it will be reliable but I'm looking for the guys that have basically put a turbo kit onto a standard B16a and looking to see how they got on and how long they lasted.
Any info would be great
Thanks
Chris

They are pretty reliable as long as you look after it. Power wise, keep it below 250hp IMO. Some folk have run more but why take the risk?
I had my stock b16a boosted for 4/5 year. Only started smoking after 3 track day weekends on the bounce.
Power, reliability, cost. Pick 2 and sacrifice the other.

Thanks for the reply mate, what ECU did you run? Did you ever go dyno or what kind of tune did you have?

When it was first turboed, I used BRE in a socketed and chipped obd0 ecu. It was only ever road mapped and run 6psi. it was dynod at 230bhp.
When I forged it and upped the boost, I went obd1 and Hondata.

As below mate no more the 230-250 I've got a b16 turbo myself but that's fully forged running just over 500bhp proper animal

Sound for the replies lads really appreciate it! What kind of money is it to forge a b16 if you don't mind me asking mate ?

Build one yourself for around 1k+ if your doing it properly.
That's without injectors etc

280-300bhp is fine on a stock b16a providing you have a decent turbo setup.

im in a similar situation, thinking of turboing my b16a or buying another engine

What b-series would people recommend being the best for turbo and why? stick with a 150k mile B16a or buy a B18c4? Looking to build a reliable daily with 250-300 bhp
