Hi guys, im gunna rebuild my b16 as its done 140,000 miles and whilst one stand still it puffs white smoke like a steam train, and also whilst enaged in vtec on full revs it puffs like a mother ****er, although when it was owned by duncan at tokyo express it had a full rebuild in 3-4 year ago, previous owner had killed it proper, what im wondering is when i rebuild it should i put high comp pistons in to compinsate my bolt ons ( s/s mani, spoon n1 rep, 3" custom induction, sk2 inlet) or should i run standard ones, what pistons are good to go for?
Cheers

Personally I'll go for oversized 0.25 P30 JDM pistons (+0.2 CR) and slight head and bottom end milling to have flat surfaces (+0.3 CR for a total of 0.25mm milled). You can also add some flat valves to increase compression a bit more (+0.2/0.3 CR).

With these mods you should be around 11 / 11.2 static compression.

Then go for aftermarket injectors and a good tuning. You can also install a DC2 or S2000 throttle body if you want.

Cheers nico thanks mate, ive been offered a set hi comp forged pistons wiseco but should i also get a set of hi comp conrods too, im not too fussed with using standard ones atm after money is rather tight do buy the both

It depends on what do you use your car for and what is your project.

For a daily drive i'll go for stock pistons. For a track car or week end / track i'll go for forged pistons.

The "problem" with forged pistons is they have a more important dilatation. So when you start your engine you have a bigger clearance between piston and cylinder (compared to cast piston) what makes you consumming more oil. When engine is at the good temperature, clearance is normal and oil consumption is also normal. Forged pistons are conceived to work at high temperature.

Concerning rods, I would say that if you're staying NA you can keep your OEM rods (if they are in good condition). On the other side, forged rods are very often lighter than OEM rods. From my point of view it would be better with forged rod but they are not necessary. However on this point I let experts give their opinion as there could be some dilation, clearance or resistance issues between OEM rods and forged pistons.

By the way, what is the CR of your wiseco pistons ? Do you plan to buy camshafts ?

My cars goin to be daily, no track but on the occassion like to have a lil game of cat and mouse u know lol, the ratio is 10.75:1 81.5mm is that any good? Head wise i wanna keep it how it is, im not too sure whether it has ITR cams in or anything as the bloke who had it left the country and i dont have any info on it apart from it had a full rebuild but as its smoking it needs to be rebuilt again,
Im new to the game so need directions mate

Personnaly I would avoid forged pistons for a daily ... Oil consumption may be very important ...

And from my point of view it's a pity to install forged pistons on an NA engine to have 10.7CR when you can have a similar one with OEM honda parts.

I also forgot to ask you what is your engine ? B16A JDM, B16A2 JDM or B16A1/2 euro ?

And don't forget a good tuning will be very important after your rebuild.
