Are EK4 and EK9 steering racks the same?

Having thought about this for more than 2 seconds, it would need a larger diameter pully to slow the pump down for less assistance, in which case it would cause me more problems of loosing the assistance at low engine speeds, so i dont want this....,back to hoping i was sold an ek4 rack and the ek9 is infact less turns lock to lock lol

Wooks, you need to look into an MR2 EHPS system.

Electro-hydraulic power steering. The Toyota MR2 uses and electric pump for the PAS, infinitely variable boost and can be linked to the VSS signal to provide speed sensitive assistance. :nice:

Ah basicaly a more safisticated version of the saxo electric pas pump that we use on the 205's. Thats what i am planning on doing to do away with the standard pump which will make it easier for when i go k20 next year.
Not very tood with all these abriations lol which is expected with my awful spelling.

Thought I would bump this thread up as I've searched for this answer but there seems to be mixed answers.

Any ways, I recently bought an ek4 rack as Im putting the power steering back into my car for mot reasons, As I have the ek9 rack converted to manual. I couldn't find an ek9 one, and several people claimed they are the same.

Here's a picture of the ek9 rack from my own ek9 and ek4 rack which I bought.
Ek9 rack front
Ek4 rack behind

As you can see they have different part numbers.

As for lock to lock...
Ek9 2. 3/4 turns
Ek4 2. 3/4 turns

So turns out lock to lock is the same but part numbers are different.

Just so everyone's clear this was done with the same size steering wheel as there seem to be a bit of confusion in the "facts and myths" thread regarding different wheel sizes changes the ratio which I can't see how it would but any how.

Only question remains is the different part numbers.....

I fitted an EK9 one to my EJ9 along with subframe, anti roll bar etc. it made a noticeable difference but I don't recall lock to lock being any quicker than EK4 have been in. Would be interested to know.
