Looking for a cheap second car.
1k or less.
Needs are:
4 Seats
Aircon
Some speed
Not to much rust
Cheap insurance
Around or below 100k miles.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Japs are ur best bet pal!

you could get anything from a cheap n cheerful toyota or a decent EG6 esi for that money...

This is the best game EVER to play on the autotrader tho....!!

I was looking for the same thing,

Needed a family size car for a run around so sold my EJ9 and got a 1.8 VTI MB6

Yes you will get plenty of bell ends saying '' Hey did you know thats got a Rover chassis ''

Well there wrong lol. The chassis was a joint project between the 2 companys.

Anyways it has some go and will keep up with a 1.6 VTI EK4 and has a nice LSD which when my son isnt in the car i get to enjoy. Plus they are massive inside and boot wise compaired with a Ek4/EJ9.

Mine was a 98 plate 1 owner with 18 stamps in the serivce book all at honda !!

The best bit only 54,000 miles and completly standard dont think the old boy knew it had a vtec lol!!

1800 what she cost me and I know thats over budget but you can pick them up for next to nothing with a few more miles have a look on Autotrader.

Mine has done me proud and ant to shabby on performance the B18C4 supprises a few people if your willing to rev the nuts off it. Plus im a dam good driver ;)

Im keeping it till it dies or becomes un economical to repair so i recon a few years yet. There easy to work on like all honda's and there are a fair few JDM parts that will go on from the 96 teg Sir.

One thing i would say even though it comes with ARB's + front upper and rear lower braces the suspension is tailored more toward the older gentlemen so its a little soft but nothing some springs cant fix.

Its just a familly run around and a mileage whore for me and it does it job well.

Accord man, got a 1994 for £270 (needed a little work though) and she's a beat. 2.0 16v so not sluggish, grips the road surprisingly well and that long wheelbase makes it beautifully comfy if you just wanna cruise. There's a lot of half decent ones going on autotrader for about £500ish, well worth a look

I've seen a few preludes which look alright.
Honda seem to do the best budget cars, lol.
Some of the Toyota's aren't bad but the cheaper range of Honda looks better.

old saab GM900, cheap parts reliable and easy to fix if dull and ugly

mk2 mondeo again dull and ugly but extremely cheap parts and not too bad to drive in most formats either.

old passat 1.9 diesel parts are not so cheap but then it's a bit nicer

mitsubishi carisma... steer clear of the gdi's unless you want expensive servicing bills

old old toyota carina cheap and economical dull but slightly more expensive parts

the obligatory higher mileage focus mk1... cheapest parts you'll ever find (abundance of spares etc in breakers) and generally a good driver for a family type car

i'd go down the mb6 route, had a vti-s before i got the ek9 and the only let down would be the suspension. i put daiyamas on it but looking back i wish i just bought some type r shocks instead.
def surprises a few faster cars too plus a half leather interior is pretty fancy [well it was coming from an eg lsi]
only got rid of mine as my mate wanted it back and i wanted his ek9
