aftermarket guage

Installing the guages is the easy bit, it's installing the sensors that's tricky.

Tacho just needs to be wired into the existing RPM Signal Wire. See here:

Water temp guage needs to be fitted in the upper coolant hose, so you'll have to chop a section out of your existing hose and fit it in line there.

Exhaust gas temp I'm not 100% sure on, but pretty sure you'll have to tap into you header at some point. I'd say that would need to be done professionally, but hopefully someone else can confirm that.

Exhaust temp gauge as mentioned, you will need to have a lambda nut welded in, usually on one of the primaries as this will give you a more accurate reading than on the underside of the car, although can I ask why you need to know this? Oil temp guage you haven't mentioned, this would be WAY more benificial.....

When fitting a water hose adapter, remember to earth the adapter or you will get no reading off the temp sendor

Actually i havent really decided what guage to go for yet but advise is alway useful.

Common 3 are

Oil temp
Oil pressure
Water temp

That's what I have ready to install and are the best values to keep an eye on with a Honda

Oil gauges can be fitted with a sandwich plate, most plates will have 2 fittings, one can be used for the temp sendor and the other for pressure sendor

As for rev counter, I would be more inclined to run a shift light which can indicate when you're up the revs, save you bouncing the limiter all the time

Surely people dont NEED a shift light eh, if you use your ears you might save yourself some cash!

Yeah didn't say you NEED one, it was more in responce to running an additional rev counter as mentioned in the first post.....

shift light would be better than an additional rev counter

BUT no shift light and just make use of the standard rev counter would be better again of course :p

Unless, you find out where your car makes peak power in each gear and set the shift light to this point...Would take like...0.05 seconds off your time at crail met

Yes

Buy a water hose adapter, these come in different diameters to suit different radiator hose sizes so make sure you get the correct one....

They are installed by cutting a small section out the upper radiator hose and then they sit in line so the coolant obviously runs through the adaptor

Your gauge should come with a temp sensor, this is screwed into your hose adapter, the wire from the sensor runs into the car and to the back of the gauge, back of the gauge should have 3 connections

-positive
-earth
-signal

The wire from the sensor going to signal. Remember to earth the water hose adapter, otherwise it won't work!! Run a earth from the adapter then to the nearest earthing point, on a civic this is the gearbox earth under the airbox

All you have to do now is run a switched power feed to the back of the gauge and also an earth from the back of the gauge to an earthing point behind the dash

Refill your coolant you lost from chopping the upper radiator hose and bleed the coolant system through and you should be done :drive:

sorry to revive this old thread but is there any other options to wire in the water temp gauge? I don't want to splice my spoon hoses :(
