right im planning on turboing my b16b and was goin to put a itr crank in it with forged b18 pistons and rods and i was just wondering if this would be any good or would just be a waste of time and if so wat would be the best route to go down?

any help welcome

Have a search around on the forum dude. We've had some really interesting threads on turbo b series builds in the past.
I'm sure Blinx, ek9turbo and RagingAngel will be happy to answer any other turbo queries you have too. Good luck:nice:

stroking to a 1.8 and using forged pistons/rods is not a bad idea at all :nice: build it with about 9.5:1 compression, the right turbo, capable fuel system and your good for about 350whp easily!!

just a few things I was wondering then

1. are the b18c pistons the same bore as b16b ones or will it need Boreing out? ( not sure if it's the bore or stroke that if diffrent between the two)

2. I am looking a running a PRECISION sc32 turbo with an exnarnal waste gate do u think this will be ok?

3. will everything else cope with 350-400 bhp I.e. gearbox, driveshafts, LSD, etc

4. I'm looking at using a hydra ems has anyone used one of these if so how did u find it?

1 same bore
2 i don't like precision, i personally try to only use garrett GT series turbo's
3 yes
4 as long as your tuner can tune it Hydra is great!

thanks for the very quick reply mate much apprenticed and has help loads!

I've bin told that if I'm looking at 350-400 bhp I will have to change the liners is this true or will I be ok on stock one?

best to change to thicker liner or modular like darton/bp/laskey items

Any good machine shop will make you liners to your engine builders spec :nice:

you dont need to sleeve a block for 350-400bhp!! theres ALOT of built b series engines on standard sleeves running 500+ bhp. Its all in the tune!

But if anyone is looking for some darton sleeves then PM me as i have brand new in the box darton M.I.D sleeves at 84mm from factory. for b18

Sleeves are a hotly debated item, i feel comfortable running a B16 up to 350whp with factory sleeves and a B18c up to 400whp with factory sleeves, some people push it further, some people sleeve engines for only 300whp, its all based on what you feel safe doing. If you want ultimate reliability/room for growth/insurance and this is your only car then you may want to sleeve it, and if you do you better step up to 84mm :naughty:

if i was to get 84mm sleeves does that mean i would need to get forged b20 pistons if so wat rod would i need? and would sleeves for a b18 fit in my b16

The sleeves for a B18 will fit your B16 because you're running a 16B.

You would base your rod decision on what crank you wish to run. If it is the 16B crank, then you could get away with running the stock rods up to 300whp or so.

If you go higher, you're best off going with a 1.8L crank and then rods are aplenty.

Still, it depends.... some prefer the off boost characteristics of the 1.8L and also the punch of it in boost...and others swear by high pressure 1.6L for its lower torque that helps traction.

my build will be running 500+ bhp on standard sleeves! I only bought the sleeves as I intended to UP the capacity of the engine but decided against it.

my sleeves are already 84mm :p id like to use them but not sure if i trust anyone in the uk to fit them!

where do you lot get your blocks sleeved in the uk??
