Well all began when I got my 98 Civic (EJ6). The car came with a OEM Honda radio, so the radio is on the console, and the cassette player is behind the cup holder .
I have a Pioneer radio and I'll install it soon. I didn't wanted to have a "hole" behind the cup holder because is useless to leave the cassette player if you no longer have the oem Honda radio installed.
I decided to buy a 99-00 Civic Cup Holder and install it to my 98 civic. I really didn't knew if it was going to fit, but after 1 hour with a philips screw driver I found that yes it fits perfectly.
I decide to write this guide to help you with the installation process. (Yes I know my car is dirly lol)
Tools needed:
Philips screw driver.
This is the OEM 98 Civic cup holder with the honda cassette player in the back.
First we need to remove the 4 screws on the side walls of this part of the console:
Then we need to remove 2 screws at the bottom of the front console.
Next you need to remove one screw at the left of the console, you have to pull the glove box out so you'll have more space to work. You do this just by pressing both sides of the glove box to the opposite side.
You'll also need to remove one screw above the left top one. This is a big screw.
Now of the left side of the console you have to remove 1 screw at the bottom, pull out the cover below the steering wheel and remove 1 screw at the top.
Now you can pull out this part of the console. Remember to unplug the lighter plug.
Now you need to pull out the shifter cover. You do this by pulling it up but you fist need to move your front seats to the back and remove 2 screws located to the left and to the right, check out the red circles in the next photo so you can see where this 2 screws are located. Also you need to remove the shift knob.
Now you need to remove 8 screws to remove the cup holder and radio. 4 hold the cup holder and 4 hold the radio.
If you have the cassette player as my car did, you'll have to unplug the connect from the radio you can do this without removing the radio, just use a flash light and unplug it.
Ok 98 cup holder + radio removed.
Let compare the cup holders. 99-00 Civic cup holder to the left 96-98 to the right.
Ok, lets screw it in!!!
Lets put everything back on....
Job done!
