stagger tire sizes make perfect sense even on FF cars. MR/FR/RR cars all run larger tires in the rear to help with stability and putting the power down.
FF cars suffer from having all the weight in the nose, on top of that, the driving wheels are also asked to turn and brake.
People complain about understeer - well no sh!t!! The front tires are under so much stress that obviously they will break traction first.
While there are many ways to set up an FF Honda's suspension, I prefer to not use a high spring rate in the rear (DC5 being the exception because of their inherent design) but at the same time, not everybody wants to or can afford to buy 2 complete sets of tires for the front/rear.
Compromises....
